Help me break the cheese stick habit

I hate all the plastic--both for the Earth and for plastic touching my food, but grabbing a piece of string cheese is so easy and yummy. I know it is kind of silly. I know knife+board+cheese=snack. But I think just hearing how others are getting their snack cheese might help. So if you are snacking on cheese and not grabbing those handy little packages, please describe.

I usually just cut up some block cheese for a snack... but I must admit, being newly pregnant (we're Dec. buddies orngbiggrin.gif) it is pretty convenient to just grab a string cheese when I need something NOW! smile.gif My blood sugar has been getting low lately so saving a couple extra minutes is pretty nice at the moment. I guess I could pre-cut a bunch of cheese and grab a few slices of that, but meh, I'm lazy right now! lol.gif

Have you read the package? string cheese can be very very high in salt and the organic version that we buy is bloody expensive. I could be snacking on truffled imports for that price

Salt + expense of organic cheese = stops me

I love cheese.

I just had 2 slices of horseradish cheddar.   I got it sliced at the deli.  But what I normally do is buy 2 big bricks of fresh mozarella at Costco and half i slice up and store in a container and the other half I leave in a container till I want to shred itor cook with it.

Thanks everyone! I like the deli slice idea. And Vermillion nice to know I'm not alone with this.

We have a Trader Joe's here so the price is not too bad. Interesting about the salt. I have a pretty low-salt diet and I often want cheese when I'm craving salt. I read our package and it says 200 mg of sodium/stick. That doesn't seem too horrible, but because I don't think too much salt is an issue here I'm not knowledgable about that. Do you eat cheese another way instead?
