Yes, first timer!  The other one hasn't even gotten her udder yet, and she's due tomorrow.  No tail head separation yet, so I'm assuming she'll go another few days at least.

she's SO cute.  did you put that sweatshirt on her shortly after she was born?  I'm unfamiliar w/ goats, but it looks like the photos are right after the birth?  how do mama goats react to the clothing on the baby?

Yes, we put that on her right after we found her (we missed the darn birth--they came earlier than expected!), and she was still wet.  It was pretty chilly for N. Texas in May this morning!  She'll wear it again to bed tonight, lol.

Goats are different than any other animal I've been around. Its almost like they think they are human. They let me handle their babies, my kids handle their babies, and they are totally fine with it, providing there are no other issues. Our babies were born at -10 degrees, though, and we didn't do the sweatshirts, or anything else, for that matter. Just clean dry straw after the birth (to keep the bedding dry after the messy birth) and that's it (just in case someone came along and thought it was a must, its not). If the baby weren't healthy, I would probably put in a heat lamp for a few nights.

 

And your baby is ADORABLE!!!

Well, um, let's just say that our goats are incredibly, incredibly spoiled.  We have old vests we used to put on the does when it was cold and they were less than a year old.  We'd put them on them backwards and zip them up their back.  LOL!

 

They definitely act like humans.  Bella doesn't mind us touching her baby at all!
