How hard is it to make bread?

I would like to start making our bread... how hard is it? I have a toddler and a baby, so time is pretty tight. I just want a good, every day whole wheat. I'd rather not use a bread machine (trying to avoid the non-stick coating).

Check out the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day, and Healthy Bread in 5 Minutes a Day books.  Good bread, and it's fast and easy.

I second the Healthy Bread in 5 Minutes a Day. I've tried the whole wheat and the white bread recipes, and my family prefers the whole wheat, usually topped with a little homemade honey butter smile.gif

Here's a link to the recipe at Mother Earth News:

I don't have a baking stone-- yet-- so I have just been making mine in a loaf pan, and it turns out great!

Finally broke down and bought the Artisan book after trying my cousin's bread- Ive made the king arthur wheat recipe for years and it's always hit or miss.  Our first attempt with the book was the simple boule, with wwheat flour - BIG hit!!!!!  I am trying the oatmeal bread tonight. I love bread and eat it with most meals so im sure we'll get our $s worth in no time!!
