Holy cow, I just got my nipple out of his mouth!

Sorry for the sensationalist thread title... but I *finally* found the trick to getting my nipple free from DS when he's falling asleep.  I had tried the whole "apply gentle pressure to his chin" stuff a million times and it never worked.  For 9 months now if I tried to remove my nipple before he was dead asleep he'd root around and I'd have no choice but to let him latch on again.  Tonight once again I unlatched him and he starting rooting so on a whim, just let the side of my breast rest on his lips.  He stopped rooting and was content as long as his lips were touching it!  I waited about a minute and then got up and he stayed asleep!  Woohoo!  Figured I'd post for anybody else with the same troubles :)

LOL, I tried this tonight and the first time, he grabbed my boob and got the nipple back in his mouth, but it did work the second time.

I'm going to have to try this trick. DS is 5 mo and will sleep nurse for the entirety of a 3 hour nap!

I remember that time... urg! What a friend recommended to me that has worked well for us is that I use my hand to very quickly pull my nipple out but not move my body or even the rest of my boob, then wait until she re-settles, and then try to ease my body away. It does suck (ha, oh dear...) to be stuck to the baby all night, for sure!

Nice! I do the quick pull out too, with a paci right there if he needs to latch on. Then ease away very slowly. Sometimes I miss judge and get a furious baby (how dare you give me a paci!!!!) But usually it works. As he gets older he doesn't even need the paci as often.

I can't for the life of me sneak a pacifier in there...that's a sure way for DS to wake right up!

Two things work for me to get my nip out:

The Quick Pull- I pull out the nip really quickly and cover it with my hand, sometimes he'll root around and give up...sometimes he'll get upset and I have to give the nip back...sometimes he'll just suck his tongue (so cute) a couple of times and give up.

The Slooow Pull- I ease the nip out bit by bit until it's basically just resting on his lips and then he'll lick it a few times, then give a big sigh and I can take it away.
