I found this site on SoCaliMommy's blog (thanks!). I thought it was fun and I'd post my results. What are you having according to this old wive's tale?
Hmm.. does it look kinda random? talktomenow and willsmomm both put in 170bpm with different results! I've always heard that higher=girl and lower=boy, but can't remember the cut off. First time I heard ds's heartbeat it was in the 130s I think and my mw said "that sounds like a little boy!" :) I already "knew" I was having a boy at that point. Dd's was always in the 160s. This little one was in the 150s.. so..kinda in the middle :/ haha
It appears that the have a database of heart rates at different gestational ages and are taking averages for the genders. So the average for boys at 9 weeks is higher than it was at 8 weeks... And you'll notice mine at 9 weeks was 175 (they told me 174.42 was the average for girls at that age). So 5 bpm different changed the result. LOL!
I put in the rates for last weeks ultrasound and for the ultrasound with my last pregnancy.
My last pregnancy was a girl and the heart rate was 154 at 17 weeks,
this pregnancy is a boy and the heart rate was 164 at 16 weeks.
The website said the last pregnancy was a boy and this one was a girl. :p So it said the opposite of what is true. :)
I've done this three different times and all of them said BOY, and my U/S confirmed! It's still an old wives' tale, but I think it's pretty neat that it was accurate in this case, especially since I was kind of hoping for a boy...
