Hematoma and Vit K

My newborn had a hematoma that was quite large and I wanted to post how it resolved. We declined the Vit K since we only wanted it if there was bruising or a traumatic birth. It was small at birth, and I didn't realize at the time that the birth WAS traumatic because it was precipitous. (1 hr active labor, 1 hr pushing).  Her hematoma grew over the next 10-14 days and it wasn't going down. We knew it would take a while, but even at 3 weeks, there was no decrease in the size. Finally, at a checkup, I consented to the Vit K injection. Five days later, it is nearly gone. Starting the next morning after the shot, it was smaller and each day got smaller and smaller. I am figuring she must have been bleeding some so it wasn't going down but not getting bigger either (after a certain point).

Anyway, for anyone else in this situation, you may want to consider getting the Vit K if you have a similar situation. Hematomas generally aren't harmful at all, so I am glad it was a more minor consequence of initially declining the Vit K, but I do wish I had requested that she have it at birth.

At birth (slightly different angle than next pic but it wasn't very big at this point).

Two weeks old. It didn't get too much bigger than this.

Latest, almost gone! She's 26 days old here, 4 days after receiving the Vit K.

My son had one (fairly quick birth too) and it took a couple weeks and then BAM it went down in two days or so. Just took til then for the body to find it and deal with it my midwife said, but in any case we did do oral k once bc of it.
