Anybody not having an early ultrasound or any other appts until 12 weeks or later?

I feel like so many Dec. mamas are hearing heartbeats (here on MDC and other forums as well) and I feel sort of out of the loop since I don't have my first appt until 11/12 weeks. I know I could have an early u/s if I want, which I'll probably due since I dispute my EDD and want to have it as accurate as possible due to my healthy history, but still - is anyone not seeing their care provider until the end of the 1st or beginning of the 2nd trimester?

I'm a wee bit jealous too because I would love love love to hear a heartbeat and know my little raspberry was doing well in there!

I've contacted my provider, but I won't be going in unless I feel something is dangerously wrong at this point until well into the second trimester.

I am not seeing my mw until week 12 either - this is a first for me as I've always seen an OB & had an early u/s as well.  It feels weird...like i dont know what to do with myself!!  Trying to be patient!

Yes! I don't know what to do with myself either! With my DS I was in a different country and didn't know my LMP so I had a 6 week U/S, it feels weird not to have one now!

I have my first appt at 12 weeks too.  :)  It is a good think that you don't need to go in before that!  :)  I actually didn't get an u/s with my first.  But...my hubby is begging me to do it this time to find out boy/girl.

I won't be having one until I'm 20ish weeks, I will be trying a doppler starting at 9 weeks tho!

I am debating.  I have no need to go in before then.  I figure whatever happens will happen.  BUT, on the other hand, I have zero idea on my dates so I am sort of tempted to get the u/s for dating only, but only because I usually go a little early-- but never premature yet so maybe it does not matter.  Dunno.

I had a quickie appointment with my mw already so she could order some labs, but my first "official" appointment is at 9wks.  With my second daughter, I didn't go in until 16 or 17 weeks.  I intended to do the same with my youngest, but ended up so sick I couldn't function and needed to have a visit so I could get meds.

I didn't get an appointment until about 12 or 13 weeks with DS1, but, got one at 8 weeks with DS2, this time my first appt. is at 9 weeks (I had a nurse appt. at 5 weeks, and did my labs (stupid) but won't get the HB or anything checked until then).

The OB I'm seeing doesn't even see patients until around 10 weeks. When I called, they didn't even have me come in to confirm the pregnancy. I guess telling them that I had 2 positive pregnancy tests was enough. My first appointment is on Friday and I'll be 9 weeks 1 day. I'm glad it's fairly early because we moved here 6 months ago and I want to get a feel for this dr. and the hospital. DD was born in my hometown and my OB was the same one I had been seeing since I was 16, so I was more than comfortable with her and the hospital we delivered at. We're planning a UC, but I want all my bases covered just in case something pops up in the pregnancy or we just decide we'd rather do it in the hospital for some reason. We're still going to tour the hospital and make a birth plan and all that stuff, but hopefully we won't need any of it.

This will be me. I've seen my family doctor, only because I had a yearly physical scheduled already for when I turned out to be five weeks. She took all my beginning bloodwork and urine samples, since she knew I was still waiting to hear back if I had a midwife or not and that it could be a few weeks. I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow and I still haven't heard. I heard back from 3/4 midwife offices that they had turned me down, couldn't get ahold of the fourth one, and then today I called them back, and one of them actually said she did have an opening, but couldn't intake me again until Friday... so hopefully on Friday I'll have a better idea of whether I actually have a care provider yet.

If I have to go to an OB, I have no idea who to use yet, hence not having an appt any time soon.

I have a fairly decent doppler at home, and my GP had said she wanted me to come in at 10 weeks so she could check and see if she could hear anything (I was having spotting before and very nervous), but I'm not nervous anymore, so I'll start trying myself at home in the next few days to see what I can hear. I don't care enough to go in for another visit yet thought.

My first mw appt isn't until 11 weeks. I had planned on not getting a u/s until around 20 weeks, but I am having symptoms very similar to a previous pregnancy which turned out to be twins (I unfortunately lost one of the babies), so I'm thinking I might as for one earlier. Just to be sure.

I guess I COULD go see my MW earlier, but I don't really need anything from her at this point. 10 weeks is really the earliest that it's reasonable to expect to hear a heartbeat with the doppler, and that's when I'm going. With a history of, and genetic tendency towards, loss, I don't personally want to wait any longer than that, but until I can hear a heartbeat... I'm not sure why I'd want to go in...

Caitlin - most OBs (and MWs) don't want/need patients to come in to confirm a PG. Home PG tests are so accurate these days, they rarely give a false positive (false negatives are much more common).

I technically don't have an appointment till the 11th week week either, but I did have a meeting just to meet my MW and decide if I wanted to work with her. As part of that appointment, I received a referral for dating and to do the Nuchal Translucency Scan. I wanted some clarification on my dates, and ultrasounds are considered most accurate the earlier they are done. Even still, I think based on my own charting, that my "new date" is off a few days. But I also didn't want to get risked out of a HB if my baby was erroneously considered lagging in growth etc... due to mixed up dates.

I am going to try and hear a heartbeat next week.I will be 10 wks then. I did my lab work and started a chart yesterday at 9 wks. my midwife is doing my first appointment next week with my husband.

I'll be 9 weeks along at my first CPM visit.  I hope to hear baby's heartbeat.  I am finishing my spring semester at school during the next two weeks, so I should be able to focus on questions I'd like to ask the CPM by then.

Not having a HB but yes about the dates-- I have small babies so I do not want to think I am too early and then would have to see an OB instead of a MW.

I'm not having an appointment until 12 weeks either, though I'm meeting MW now to see who I want to work with. I'm interviewing 2-3, then my husband wants to meet the "final choice" too. So that will keep me occupied until 12 weeks. Oh, and we're starting renovations on our house in the next couple of weeks too. Never a dull moment here LOL

I am scheduled to have an appt w/my MWs at 11 wks - hopefully I'll get to hear the heartbeat!!  Not sure yet if I'll do a 13 wk ultrasound - DH wants to, for the screening/dating, but I'm not sold.  With my DD, I had one at 7 wks, 13.5 wks, 22 wks, and one of the "4d" videos (def not doing that one again!!) - so definitely not as much this time...

Glad I'm not the only one waiting :)
