Food in LO's nose - I feel horrible :(

Sometmes I give dd (17m) sunflower seeds and/or pumpkin seeds.  She loves them.

Today as I'm nursing her I thought she had a booger in her nose.  Well, it was a sunflower seed.  I'm thinking it got stuck on her clothes and slid into her nose while I was nursing her.  A while later, there is a pumpkin seed in the same nostril.  Strange I thought.

Then she is eating a snack - and I gave her the seeds to see what she does with them.  So far she always just ate them.  She eats them, of course.  I look up her nose and there is another seed.  I kind of freaked out.  I was able to take it out and then another one came out - still the same nostril.  As I was suctioning her nose, and freaking out a little bit (I mean, what else could be up there???) she sneezed and three more came out at the same time surrounded by a snot.  What???  How did I not notice her shoving seeds up her nose?

I hope they're all out.  And that nothing else is in there.  She has had a runny nose for about a week (and is teething) and it seemed to have gotten better today after the seeds came out.  Was it just her nose trying to clean itself out?  Should I do something to make sure nothing else is there?  Is there even something I can do?  headscratch.gif

lol I'm sorry I'm smiling because I DS had a sunflower shell up his nose the other day!

I'd probably take her to a pedi or someone with a scope just to peep up there and make sure there are no more. It could get yucky if there's one stuck up there!

you should definitely make a note to tell this story at her wedding.... or maybe her baby shower would be more appropriate? smile.gif

Don't feel bad!  But you should probably take her to the Dr to see if they want to check out if there's anything further back or if they're happy to leave it.  At 2yrs old DD put a cooked pea up her nose during dinner, we didn't notice her doing it but she then told us she had a pea up her nose.  We tried to squeeze it out and to get her to sneeze to no avail so went to A&E.  Ended up spending the night in hospital and the next day she had a general anaesthetic so they could check properly with a camera scope thing.  As it turned out, by that time the pea had gone so it had probably worked it's way to her throat and she'd swallowed it.  But the surgeon said it's always best to check as sometimes food/stuff can get stuck in the tiny tubes far back in the head and end up causing an infection.  It wasn't a fun experience, not least as I was 8 weeks pregnant at the time, and leaving her to have a GA was upsetting and worrying (albeit it was only for 5/10 mins so the risks were very low) but we did see the funny side lol.gif  .

We were eating dinner one night and looked over and DD was shoving peas up her nose.  I got 3 of them out and then kept looking in her nose all night and making her blow her nose because I thought more might be in there.  Sure enough two more came out that evening!
