Would you apply for davidson? when?

We have cognitive test scores that would qualify our son for Davidson Young Scholars. They were done by a graduate student in her assessment course, but validated by the clinical psychologist who supervised it (he watched the video tapes and oversaw the write up and scoring and signed his name to verify it).

I am positive that we could demonstrate achievement scores that meet the requirements as well, and if not scores, I am sure I could create a portfolio that would demonstrate it.

Our son starts kindergarten in the fall. I don't think he will be a compliant teacher's pet type of student, and he is already "underachieving" in preschool by adjusting his skills when playing literacy/numeracy games or activities to those of the next highest performing kid--though, he will read aloud to the kids during circle time when the teachers ask him to as long as they tell him they need a favor from him because they are both too busy to read right now.

Would you apply? When?

Did you apply for your child?

I think I was sort of where you are on this before we applied. I had trouble really getting a handle on what the point would be for our family, but we've now been involved in the program for many years and it has been a help to us. We've appreciated having access to online opportunities to talk with gifted experts and with other parents. Also, we've appreciated having the opportunity to make connections with other families both online and in real life. While this wasn't particularly important to our child when he was younger it has become a bigger priority in the teen years.

What you get out of it will depend a lot on the needs of your child and the unique circumstances of your family and educational situation. It is a free program and I can't really see any downside to applying. Even if you don't really need the support now it is a good thing to have in place as you have the scores now and you don't know what the future holds.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions.
