I have son, 8 years old, who was born with severe hypospadia and now we plan to proceed surgery in Malaysia. I would appreciate if anyone who know the qualified and experienced paediatric hypospadia surgeon in Malaysia recommend to me. Thanks.

I cant help with finding a Dr. but I can tell you a few things to look for in an interview. Make sure you find a Dr. who is not only willing but wants to preserve as much foreskin as possible.

Do you mean the foreskin should be used in case of  2nd surgery is needed?

No I mean that in a lot of hypo cases the foreskin can be preserved so that he is left with more sensation to the area. It is a newer technique used in places like the UK where circumcision is not routinely done. Here in the USA they dont even try to save any of the foreskin because they dont see value to it. But even a little foreskin left is better than nothing.

With preserving the foreskin skin is taken from the bumm instead of the foreskin for the reconstruction.

Would you be willing to look at more information about genital reconstruction surgeries for people with differences in sex development?  ISNA is now defunct, but there is still a wealth of information there: http://www.isna.org/  Also, I had this organizations pamphlet available at a nocirc booth I tabled once, http://www.bodieslikeours.org/forums/, and http://www.genitalautonomy.eu/

Good luck!

Ursaminor, I was curious to check out the readings, but the first and second links don't work for me and the third link doesn't mention hypospadia.

Not sure why the links arent working, but you can google the web addresses and pull them up.  Genital Autonomy supports the the idea of informed consent from the patient for cosmetic genital surgeries.  There is a lot of info in their 'Intersex' section.

ETA, I forgot to add Advocates for Informed Choice, I hope the link works, http://aiclegal.org/faq

They are also a currently active group. And I just found this link on AIC's resources page, www.heainfo.org, Hypospadias and Epispadias Association.

Ursaminor, thanks for the info. If anyone know about Prof. Tan Hock Lim or had ever experience with him as hypospadia surgeon, I would appreciate to receive some info about him. Prof Tan, from the University of Adelaide in Australia, was born in Malaysia, but he has taken up Australian citizenship. Now he is based in Malaysia. I hope I can learn more details about him when he was abroad before traveling to Malaysia. Thank you.
