I got a deep 2nd degree burn on my arm a little more than 3 months ago, it's about 4 x 6 inches. It's healed up quite nicely and now I'm at a spot where that new skin is still pretty tender and quite sensitive to touch. Anyone know how long this can last? It's driving me nuts at times. At night I put either olive oil or A&D ointment on it and the cover it with the leg part of a cut off sock. I put oil/lotion/ointment on it a number of times each day because it feels tight and itchy. I often put the sock over it during the day because I can't stand it being touched (in a painful and also not painful way). After the raw healing was done I thought I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel--and I definitely was in a way since there's no more bandaging and what, for a while, was horrible pain. But there's still so much tenderness and sensitivity and I feel like tearing my hair out at times. I know it's sensitive and tender because the skin isn't thick/tough enough over the area but I sure would love to know when it might start being better than it is.

I'm asking here because it seems silly and a waste of taxpayer money (I have Medicaid) to see my doctor just so I can ask her that. If I call and ask her nurse she'll probably just say I should come in but unless there's a real reason to I don't want to do that. And yes, my doc did take care of the burn for the first couple weeks. She'd have liked me to come in at least once more but then she was sick and I was handling it well on my own. Now to get past this tender, don't-anything-touch-me stage...
