Baby went to TX Roadhouse (peanuts!), miserable and croupy all night - allergy??

Yesterday we had a big family dinner at Texas Roadhouse.  For those of you not familiar with the chain, it is peanut city.  They have big open barrels of peanuts every where which you are invited to eat and then just throw the shells on the floor.  We had to wait about 45 minutes in the lobby (full of peanuts) and then we were there while we ate our food.  DS got EXTREMELY fussy once we were at the table, which is unusual for him - he is very social, loves people & a busy room.  Usually in this situation he would be distracted from fussing about anything (tired, hungry, etc.).  Anyway I didn't think much of it then but we got home and he just SCREAMED, and it took me awhile to even get him calmed down enough to nurse.  Then he seemed okay, but he had a really difficult time going to bed last night.  He'd nurse, and then roll away and sob - we did that for over an hour.  Then he woke up at midnight with a textbook croupy cough - he sounded exactly like a seal.  That's when I really got concerned, because he didn't show any signs of being sick yesterday and I thought croup took awhile to come on, like usually the baby has a virus first?

Anyway he is happily jumping in his jumperoo right now.  I know there are a lot of really informed mamas on here, do you think this is enough to be concerned about a peanut allergy?  Or just a bunch of coincidences?

(PS - I ate a ton of peanuts too, which are not normally part of my diet.)

TIA!

I don't know about the peanuts but that definitely sounds like croup. My son is almost 11 and he still gets it once a year so I've been through it a lot. It comes on very suddenly. The last time he had it was when we were on vacation last month. He was fine the whole day while we were flying out and then BAM at like 1 am he wakes up with the seal bark. And it goes away fast too, he usually only has one croupy night.

So it's definitely possible your baby was upset because he didn't feel good due to the croup coming on.

I hope he's feeling better. Croup is no fun.

We discovered that my 20 month old has pollen allergies a couple weeks ago. We opened up the windows one of the first nice spring nights we had and he awoke in the night with a croupy cough. We thought he might be sick but then it was clear it was more of an allergic reaction. So, I suppose peanuts could be a trigger (my son also has peanut allergies).

My 5 yo Dd does have multiple food allergies.  We can't go to places with peanuts due to the airborne dust.  Did he have any other signs like hives or redness to his skin?  We did not know my daughter had a shellfish allergy and used to go to a place that had an open kitchen and cooked lots of shrimp.  She would get fussy and start to cough while we were there (she did not eat anything).  Later we found out about her allergies and it explained the coughing.
