Sadie Grace is here!

Arrived may 7th at 12:03 pm. 8lbs 4 oz. We were trying for our 2nd homebirth but decided to transfer at 5 cm when tha water broke w mec in the fluid. Drive to hospital was AWFUL - contracting in the car every two min and went from 5cm - 8cm I've the 20 min drive! Had baby within 30 min of hospital arrival. Sadie was fine, just a little suction amd then lots of cries and straight on my chest. Then, for extra fun, I hemhoragged! The midwives dealt w it fine w oxytocin and hemabate, as well as Sadie latching on right away and nursing like a champ. It was a slow bleed - 1200 mL so enough to be annoying but nothing to disastrous - apparently I 'compensate well' smile.gif the worst thing was the meds made me nauseous. In total there were 5 amazing midwives there - my mom, my sister, my midwife, the backup and the student. I made them work fortheir convenient daytime birth smile.gif ! Because mws are so well integrated here it was not a transfer of care and I barely felt like I was in the hospital, except for the horrible pillows smile.gif didn't see any hosp staff at all. We were back home by 4:00 pm. It's not the birth I imagined but I'm fine with our decisions -esp bc we might have had to do a postpartum ambulance transfer with transfer of care bc of the hemhorrage and I would have been separated from Sadie. So it worked out as best as it could have. So happy to be home and this sweet girl seems like a good nurser, thankfully!

Congratulations!!! You made an excellent decision and so happy everything is going well.  I'm envious of the fluidity with that allows such a smooth transition between homebirth care and hospital care.  Enjoy your new little one.

Congratulations! How wonderful that you had such a great team of close midwives and that they were able to maintain control of your care! Welcome Sadie Grace!

Congratulations!  It sounds like such a well coordinated system, it's great that it felt fairly seamless despite the transfer and you were home again quickly. :)  I love daytime births - it was still light out for DD's birth, too, I like the energy that comes with the daylight :)

Love her name!!!

Congratulations. I always love to hear stories of planned homebirths with a twist that still go smoothly.

Hospital pillows are terrible.
