Can the amniotic sac reseal? When will birth occur?

I am 38w2d and my water broke 32 hours ago with frequent gushes throughout the day.  By nightfall I stopped leaking and there is plenty of fluid still in my uterus (I drank well over 4 liters of fluid by bedtime).  Only urine is coming out now and maybe some mucus.  Nothing has happened labor-wise.  We tried all kinds of stimulation yesterday to no avail and frankly I feel quite normal today.  DH is getting antsy and upset with me for not wanting to go to the hospital but I know they will just try to induce me. My body is not ready to birth right now though.  Baby and I are fine as far as I can tell- regular movement, no fever, using hibiclens, no meconium in the fluid yesterday.  Our MW is not too concerned but wants us to do a NST tomorrow (I would be 54+ hours after water breaking).  I am fine with this and calling my OB tomorrow, but I am inclined to stretch the truth a bit so I can avoid induction.

First off, WWYD?  Second, can a bag reseal and then be fine for days/weeks until labor?

A bag can definately reseal, and sometimes be up to a few weeks later before you go into labor. If you've tried giving your body a bit of a push and there's nada going on, I think you're smart to wait.

I might get the NST based on how much fluid you said you lost. I know the fluid replenishes, but I honestly don't know how fast. But-- I would only agree to go in if they promised me there would be no vaginal checks. Absolutely. At all. You've been monitoring yourself well for infection, but obviously you know the easiest way to get an infection is for some dr to decide you 'must' be checked. As long as there was enough fluid, and you keep monitoring yourself fo infection, I would go ahead and just keep waiting. Baby will come when they're ready.

Good luck to you mama.

Anything in the vagina is non-negotiable at this point.  I'd also avoid baths...

My water started leaking about 72 hours before I went into labor @ 39 weeks.  I think the NST is a good idea, as they can verify that there's plenty of fluid and that heartrate is doing well.  But yes, nothing in the vagina!

Have you tried getting in to an acupuncturist?  They could probably give you immune system a good boost, and might be able to help tip the scales if they know that you're facing pressure from big medicine.

Good luck!
