Should I toss milk that is older than a year?

We have a bottom drawer freezer style GE fridge that is 4 years old.  I have a few bags of milk in there (medela bags) that are 12-15 mos old-any chance they are ok or is it a no brainer to toss them after 6 mos or so?

DD2 refused a bottle vehemently so I really haven't pumped much this time around.  I did have some stored the 1st few months after she was born not knowing she would end up refusing anything but me.  She is finally loving sippy cups so I wondered about the old frozen milk.

Me, I'd thaw and smell/taste. If it smells and tastes OK, I'd use it! thumb.gif

I am pretty sure that the issue is NOT that the milk will have spoiled. The main issue with keeping frozen milk for so long is that the nutritional value may have deteriorated-- some vitamins and minerals do not survive long-term freezing very well, for instance. I would use it-- and I have used milk frozen for more than a year, with no ill-effects to my kids-- but I wouldn't donate it, nor would I rely on it for a baby's main nutritional source. But it doesn't sound like you're doing that. It sounds like you're thinking of offering some in a cup, occasionally. I would be comfortable doing that, for sure.
