I have had hay fever and reactions to bug bites (mosquitoes, gnats, bees...) all my life. I started taking allergy meds when I was in elementary school, but couldn't for long b/c they knocked me out cold. Either way, I couldn't function in the spring and summer.
Â
In high school I started breaking out in hives here and there.
Â
I finally found an allergist who can manage my symptoms. I used to be on eye drops, nose spray, skin cream and pills. After 7 years of shots, I'm off all of those things. I also eliminated chemicals from my daily routine. Natural makeup, coconut oil for moisturizer and deodorant, etc. so that may have contributed to less eczema.
Â
About 3 years into the shots, I developed an allergy to shrimp. No other shellfish, just shrimp. I've never had any other food sensitivities or allergies. Other than that, I've been doing great, until last year when I started coughing. Not in the spring, but in the fall. The doctor thought it was bronchitis, and antibiotics did help, along with an inhaler, and I thought nothing of it. The cough is back again this year, has been since December, and it won't quit. Now the doctor is saying it's allergic seasonal asthma.
Â
I find it strange that once I finally started reacting to the shots, I developed new symptoms and sensitivities. Anyone else experience this? Is it common? Is it worth it??
