Question about round ligament pain

For the past two days I've been feeling an odd pain in my pelvis.  It's stabbing, but not excruciating.  It comes and goes and doesn't last for very long.  Most of what I've read about round ligament pain describes it that way but also says it's felt on the sides.  I don't feel anything in my sides; it's all right in the center of my pelvis.  I have no bleeding and no "cramping" (which I would define as PMS-type cramping).

Do you guys think it's round ligament pain?  Or something else that I should perhaps be worried about?

Does it happen when you move (like stand up, stretch, roll over in bed, etc)? My experience with RLP is that it happens when you move and the ligaments connected to the uterus pull. Hurts something awful too--definitely stabbing. I've had weird pains before where they felt like RLP but not on the sides--but yeah, it's almost always on either side of my abdomen. Sounds like near where your bladder is--no UTI symptoms or anything, correct?  My personal opinion is that since it goes away quickly and you aren't experiencing any other symptoms, just bring it up at your next prenatal. It's probably one of those odd aches and pains (if it isn't RLP, which it might be).

Is this your first?  If you have had previous surgeries or C-sections it could be pain from scar tissue, which feels a lot like RLP.

Round lig is definately, unmistakably on the sides.

I have a spot on the front side of my uterus which hurts if touched or bumped by babe. It is a scar from a D&C. Feels weird and stabby.  I paniced when I first experienced it with my (now 9 month old) son, but when I started experiencing it again a few weeks ago I knew what it was and am not worried.

When I had round ligament pain, it mostly started around 4-6 months gestation, but it mostly felt like a sharp stretch. You know, if you get out of bed after a hard day's work the day before and you cramp when you stretch? That's how it felt for me and I had to wear a girdle so the weight of my baby bump didn't pull on it so much. I hope it gets better. Warm baths or even swimming in warmer water will help alot, I assure you. That's how I got through the summers with my other two. :)

Thanks ladies.  It sounds like this isn't round ligament pain.  But, it's not incredibly painful, comes and goes and I have no other symptoms, so I think I'll just wait until my next appointment to discuss it with my midwife.

This is my first, so it's not a c-section scar.

It could just be lil bitty contractions too. And that can be normal around this time. Alot of women have perfectly fine pregnancies with really early Braxton Hicks contractions. I'm just assuming because you said the discomfort comes and goes, but the best bet is to consult your care provider.

That's an interesting thought.  I haven't felt it yet today at all, actually.  Then again, I've been sitting at my desk all day (ALL day), so that may have something to do with it.  As long as it doesn't get worse, I think I'll just try not to worry and ask about it at the next appointment.

On a related note, I just want to say you girls rock.  I love having this place to come to and read about what's going on with other women and getting BTDT advice from women.  I told my husband about these weird pains and he is FREAKING out - wanting to go to the ER immediately.  It took me a little while to talk him down from the ledge.  I can tell it's going to be a joy in late pregnancy when I may or may not be going into labor.

Is it right in the middle of your pubic bone, in front? It COULD be a little bit of relaxin going to the area loosening it up a little bit. I feel that occasionally, off and on. If its that, its just your hormones loosening your pelvis to prepare for birth! It can help to go see a chiropractor who is experienced with pregnancy. Especially if it gets worse!

I'm with the previous poster, it could be your pelvis starting to stretch out. I had some cramping yesterday (14 weeks) and my midwife told me something interesting which was that women often go through a growth spurt between 12-14 weeks, AND the uterus rises out of the pelvic bone, and it has to tilt a bit, and that can cause weird pains and cramping. So maybe it's bumping into your pubic bone on the way out of your pelvis. :)

a friend of mine also had a situation in her previous pregnancy where her pubic bones weren't opening up evenly and rubbing together and causing her pain, but that wasn't until she was much farther along, and the pain was mostly while walking. It wasn't a scary thing, just an annoying, painful by-product of pregnancy - like sciatica or carpal tunnel.

I've been experiencing what I think is RLP just this past week. I'm at 15 weeks right now, so it sounds about the right time for it to be starting. This is my first so I'm inexperienced with all of this! Yesterday I rolled over on the couch to stand up and somehow in the process of twisting and bending over, I caused some sharp stabbing pain towards the right side of my pelvis. It HURT!! I think I scared my husband more than myself because I stood up and doubled over leaning against the couch arm to steady myself, and he was looking at me in fear. LOL poor guy. I hope it doesn't keep springing up so suddenly like that! It sure scared the heck out of me for a little bit.
