Pregnancy with a Prolapse

Hello all,

I'm just about 4 weeks along, and I'm very surprised because I've had a prolapsed uterus for about a year now.  We didn't think getting pregnant was going to be possible, nor were we wanting to be.  But here we are.

With DS I had a lot of pubic bone pain that started round 5 months pregnant, and continued well after he was born.  I actually had physical therapy for this, and the pain went away, but then came the prolapse.  It's got to all be related somehow, probably just a weak pelvic floor.

I'd really like to hear any thoughts you all have about what to do better this time so I don't have this pain for so long, and of course, what I can do to help with the prolapse.  I had been doing yoga and a lot of pelvis-strengthening exercises plus inversions to kind of put everything back where it was supposed to be, but I understand inversions are ill-advised while pregnant.

And I want to hear about any similar experiences, even if they aren't super positive.  I need to know what to expect.  Is this pregnancy going to last?  Were you in pain the entire time?  Am I likely to face bedrest?  Is my uterus going to fall out when the baby comes?

I have PT with a new person tomorrow, so hopefully some of these concerns will be relieved, but I also want to hear from women who've been there, not the clinical, textbook prognosis.

Thanks!

Hey there! Just so you know, there's a huge support thread for pelvic organ prolapse in the surviving birth trauma forum (part of birth and beyond). You'll find a lot of great info there. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have a bad perineocele and a mild utterine and bladder prolapse. I have to warn you that my uterus did get really low during the first trimester of this pregnancy. The good news is that it's super high now, and so is my bladder. I'm having no prolapse symptoms whatsoever. From what I understand, pregnancies shouldn't be affected by a prolapse, because the uterus moves up and becomes an abdominal organ. After the delivery it may get better or worse, but will probably just stay the same.
I also have spd (symphysis pubic dysfunction) which causes that horrible pain in your crotch! I find that chiropractic is the best for that. I do think that prolapse and SPD are related. Women who have loose ligaments tend to be more prone to both. If you are hyper mobile it also tends to take longer to heal from childbirth. Just something to keep in mind. I hope you have a happy, prolapse free pregnancy!
