Are you eligible for fmla leave?

i am approved for fmla.  its the $$ part that is the problem.  fmla keeps your job but doesn't pay you. my short term disability pays me for the time i am out of work.  except it doesn't kick in for 30 days and then they only give you 6 weeks for a vaginal delivery.  after the 30 days that gives 2 weeks of pay.  Its not fair that we force women back to work so soon after having a baby.  even 12 weeks seems so short but 6 weeks!?!  Its craziness.

Any chance your company would let you use extra vacation/sick days from next year in advance or something? You'd have to pay it back if you quit before it's accrued but if you plan on staying there long-term that shouldn't be an issue...

I had a horrible delivery with DS and even though it was a vaginal birth, I was nowhere near recovered after 6 weeks. greensad.gif I know most do recover quickly but I wasn't one of them!!

I had saved up an extra week of vacation from the previous calendar year (got permission to carry it over) and then took a week or two in advance too I think (was 2 years ago so I don't remember for sure!) I ended up going back after maybe 8 or 10 weeks that way? But I switched to telecommuting so I didn't have to leave DS... so I didn't even think of trying to get the STD extended based on not being recovered, that's a good idea to at least try...

Is there anything they will let you do from home or at least from a desk at work, until you're ready for the more taxing work?
