Breastfeeding advocacy local org/volunteering?

I've had it! Many new moms are NOT breastfeeding because they are simply uninformed and then when I try and help them, it's looked at like a stab at their values as a mother. SO not the case. I am really trying to help them understand the benefits of breastfeeding and the bond it creates between mother and child.

I live in the LA/OC area and want to become more involved, can you lovely mamas help me figure out how? I'd love to work with new moms as a lactation consultant one day, but having a 17mo is preventing any kind of hardcore study at this point. It definitely is a goal of mine in the future. Thank you!

Have you been involved with La Leche League?  You could become a LLL Leader if you are willing to put in the time.  It is more helping people who want to breastfeed, though (rather than converting those who don't).  You can find a local group here:
