I think you've already gotten a number of wonderful responses so I won't repeat anything.  However, you asked what happens to these kids when it comes to college and I just wanted to provide some links for you.

- Here's a list of famous Montessori graduates. Granted, it's not homeschooling but it is a child-led education system:

- Here's a list of celebrities who did not attend school/learned on their own:

The second link isn't quite the same as what unschoolers are doing today but, again, it's an example of people who have still made their mark on the world without extensive schooling (not necessarily a GOOD mark, though, it looks like Hitler is on that list eyesroll.gif). That being said, I didn't know that both Dickens and Twain never finished grade school... wow!

Ultimately, you have to do what works best for your family and your children.  Some kids demand more structure, others don't and can thrive in freedom.  Good luck and have fun reading, I think you've been given a lot of great resources here!

Oh, and as for my own personal preference, definitely child-led learning.  thumb.gif Currently DD is in a Montessori school and we've also looked into free/democratic schools too.  Â
