PP Bleeding at 6 weeks - prescribed Methergine

I am currently 6 weeks PP and my bleeding tapered off and stopped and then started again with light spotting.  The other morning, I woke to red, fresh blood like a period.  I'm breastfeeding (didn't get my period with my first until he was 2)!

So I went in for my PP appointment at the OB and they did an ultrasound to find a polyp and prescribed me the methergine.  I keep thinking this can't be a period and was told the bleeding is most likely from the polyp.  This is an attempt to avoid a D&C if the med stops the problem.

Opinions on this?  My husband is pushing me to get a second opinion and I just want to take the damn meds and get on my way to healing!  Sigh...

Often when PP bleeding starts up again it can mean that you are really just doing too much and that you need to slow way down (easier said than done, I know).

Personally, I would get a second opinion as I'd be very hesitant to take any medications while BFing unless absolutely necessary, but I'd also try really limiting your responsibilities & activities and to make yourself lay down and rest/nap when baby naps and see if that has helps with the bleeding.

I had pp bleeding at 6 weeks. Like you my bleeding tapered off and then was bright red at 6 weeks.  I was concerned and thought no way is this my period starting this soon pp. My midwife said that it is not unlikely that it is your period and does happen to breastfeeding mamas.

And I guess it was because every month since then I have gotten my period. I had 6 months period free last time.
