Should I limit his naps?

Hey there! Wondering if you ladies have any thoughts on this.. DS is 19 months old and goes down great for naptime. He usually sleeps about 2 - 2 1/2 hours, sometimes longer. I never let him sleep past 3 because then nighttime is guaranteed crazy, but lately he has been taking FOREVER to go down at night no matter what. It doesn't seem like it's just a temporary thing either because it's been happening for two weeks straight. I am wondering, maybe his naps are too long? Do you guys think limiting his naptime would help? He naps at about 12:30 to 2:30 or 3, and lately has been going down at around 8:30 (too late, in my opinion) after a long struggle. He is clearly very tired by 7:30... And yes, I have tried more than once to put him down earlier, which only drives me more crazy because then it takes him two hours to go to sleep! Help?

What time does he wake up for the day? I don't let my DD sleep more than 2 hours because we like to keep her night time sleep form 7:30pm-6:30am (though we do 7-6 or 8-7 too, but the idea is that she needs 11 hours at night and rarely sleeps past 7am). Also, my DD would have a hard time if all that sleep was only 4.5 hours from bedtime. Maybe if you wake him gently after 2 hours, it might take a day or two, but that extra sleep he seems to want will tack itself onto his nighttime sleep?

Not sure where you live, but has it been staying light later in the past 2 weeks?  I know my DS is very sensitive to this.  He has been going down about an hour later lately.  Just a thought - maybe some black out curtains might help?
