Freaking out :(

Long story but my house filled with gasoline fumes while we were sleeping tonight. I noticed it earlier in the evening but thought it was just being crazy. Then ds woke me up around three needing a drink and the house smells soooo bad. It really hit me when I opened my bedroom door so I am hoping it wasn't as bad in my room. Dh went and fixed the problem but it is gonna take a while for the house to air out.

So I am sitting under a window at the opposite end of the house than where the gas was coming from with a second window open. I can still smell it but it's not as bad. I am totally freaking out about the baby and the fumes. I am 11 weeks right now. Can anyone make me feel better?

I was about that far along with my second son when I woke up from a nap to smell paint remover fumes.  (Long story involving ink stains from a pen in the dryer and a door to the garage left open.)  I know its not exactly the same situation, but I was so worried about the fumes harming the baby.  My son is now four and he is perfect in every way.  I would contact your care provider as s/he can probably offer some reassurance. Please try not to worry.  I think I probably did more damage to my son by worrying than by breathing those fumes!

You should get a few carbon monoxide detectors. I have them and they make me feel so much more secure. Your baby will be fine. If you weren't harmed by the carbon monoxide, the baby won't be. What's scary about gas leaks, is that they are unusually undetected, so there are whole families living in the house who end up very sick or worse. Since you found the leak right pretty quickly, I wouldn't worry about it. I would, however, get a few CO detectors. They are expensive but totally worth it!

We have carbon monoxide detectors on each level. This was gasoline fumes:( something happened with our quad I guess.

Thank you for this. I think I'll call my midwife today. The smell is completely gone this morning so I feel a little better. Just not sure how long I was exposed to it.

If you detectors and they didn't register anything I wouldn't worry at all! The dangers of gasoline fumes is the potential for carbon monoxide poisoning. Really don't worry. Call your midwife if you need reassurance, but I'm sure everything is fine.
