We adopted our German Shepherd mix puppy about 2 months ago. He is estimated to be 8 months old (was picked up as a stray in February). When we first got him, his poops were soft and runny, but there was nothing about any diet or elimination issues in his paperwork from the rescue organization. I figured it was the stress of new home, new place, new family, new rules, and he would get better after a couple of weeks.
Didn't happen.
So I switched him from regular ordinary puppy food to lamb & rice.
Didn't help.
Tried adding fresh cooked sweet potato and pumpkin to his food
Didn't help
So I am halfway through switching him to the uber-expensive grain-free dog food.
It helps. His poops are much better formed and no diarrhea. Yay!
Now I bounce between being happy that I have found something that helps his digestion or irked that he eats "sweet potato and venison" while my kids and I eat hamburgers....
