Biking for health and frugality

I've been doing this with my daughter since she was born. At first out of necessity because I didn't own a car at the time. Now we've acummulated a bike trailer (which was used for baby and now for shopping), helmets, bike lights, and now a Trail-a-Bike. She just loves riding the bike and now she can ride with me! It's especially helpful for the necessary multi tasking that a single mother like me needs and fits in so well with my ideal of being self-reliant AND world-conscious AND setting realistic examples of awareness for my now 5 year old daughter.

Anyone else with this love of raising children on bikes?

Count me in! I bought a new bike when DD was 8 months old, and now it's my primary mode of transportation (DD is 31 months). My partner & I will likely get rid of our only car soon. We LOVE riding our bikes, DD is quite happy to be toted around in our Burley cart, and we have another trailer that we use to haul a whole week's worth of groceries in one trip. I've lost lots of weight thanks to bicycle commuting, and we are definitely saving money.

I am very fortunate to live in a community where cycling is very well supported. That makes such a difference!

We don't live in an area where it can be my primary mode of transportation, but we do ride when we can. My husband commutes to work everyday (about 8 miles one way), we use our bikes on the weekends to go grocery shopping or to Lowe's. We will bike our DD to school next year. We have bikes with removable baskets on the front and collapsable baskets on either side, and a bike trailer for kids and groceries. We definitely do it when we can and enjoy the exercise and being outdoors.
