My main question is, would you use Ventolin more often than every 4 hours in an acute situation? One of ds2's ER doctors told us that it was fine to use it more than every 4 hours in acute situations. But another ER doc said not to, and everything I've read online says not to.
Â
Secondly- what herbs and homeopathic treatments can help with asthma? I'm using cell salts and homeopathic cold treatment, but I know there are more.
Â
Ds2's (22mos) breathing is more or less under control, but we're using the puffer (Ventolin) more often than every 4 hours. We started using it yesterday, but probably haven't exceeded the max dosage that the prescribing doctor ordered us to use it for the first couple of days after ds2's first major breathing problems/asthma symptoms. (but that is more than the max dosage on the puffer carton).
Â
He gets asthma like symptoms when he gets a cold (ONLY when he gets a cold. It's pretty predictable. And only the first couple days of his colds). We took him to the hospital the first 3 times, and were admitted the first 2. At that point, none of the doctors could agree if it was asthma, RAD or RSV.
In the past, I've learned that the first dose doesn't work, but if I give a second dose within an hour, it does a GREAT job clearing things up. This time, I don't know if we didn't hit it hard enough, fast enough or what, but it's been over 24 hours, and he's still wheezing and working harder than usual to breath.
Â
He's not doing any indrawing, and he's DEFINITELY not lethargic! He seems to feel fine, he's just wheezy and breathing harder than usual.
Â
We're going to take him to a pedi tomorrow, because he definitely needs something else to help control his breathing when he gets a cold. I'm just not sure if we should take him to the ER today, or continue using the Ventolin like we are.
Â
I'm using cell salts and homeopathic cold medicine (actually, the ONLY cold he's had that he didn't have breathing problems was the one time I used the homeopathic cold medicine from the very first sign of a cold.)
