Low Cost Doula available in Baltimore Area!

Hi ladies!

I'm a Baltimore native who has just moved back into the area (we were in NYC for the past 18 months). I'm DONA trained as a Birth Doula, and I'm looking for my first few clients so that I can get my certification. I'm offering my services for a really low cost (basically just covering expenses). It would include all the basics of a good doula: a free consultation to figure out if we're a good fit for each other, one prenatal appointment to discuss birth preferences, help with a birth plan (if desired), continuous support throughout labor and birth, one postpartum visit to help with breastfeeding and to process the birth, and a pretty extensive lending library.  

I'm really excited about starting this journey, and I feel like I'm going to be really good at this. I've been a birth junkie for YEARS, devouring every book I could get my hands on.  I've been a nanny for over 8 years, so I love taking care of people.  And my workshop leader was Debra Pascali-Bonaro, one of the absolute best out there.  

I know all of you are doulas too, but if anyone contacts you that can't afford your services.....I might be able to help out!!  Just PM me :-D

Also, if anyone has ANY advice for a doula just starting out, I'm all ears.

I am a student midwife, who will be offering Montrice services as well as Birth Doula services. Montrice services are outside the scope of practice of a labor doula and include taking vital signs, assessing fetal heart tones, and checking cervical dilation. These can be helpful if you are wishing to stay home for the better part of your labor , but want to be sure to make it to the hospital or birth center in time for delivery or if your midwife lives a distance away and you want someone to assess you until she arrives. Montrice services are not for medical treatment, but only to assess your progress in labor. 

I am offering low-cost Doula services to women in the MD-DC Area with EDDs in August 2011 (limited availability), September 2011-January 2012.
