Trying to get fit before TTC!

Thread Starter

So I need motivation and I thought an accountability type thread may help! I have quite a bit of weight left over from my first pregnancy and we really want to start TTC in Sept. I know I can't lose all I want in this short time but I need to lose some weight and get fit before I get pregnant!

Anyone else on this journey feel free to join in!

My plan is going to be a lower carb diet full of fresh fruits and veggies and lean proteins. I have and already do eat whole foods, very little processed foods (whole wheat bread, pasta etc), and very little take out. I cook every meal every day from scratch. I eat really healthy but the weight is still lingering!

I will be posting what I ate each day and weighing in each Mon.

I will be increasing my activity during the day and doing a pilates 20 min workout 4x a week. (I need to restore my muscles esp. in my stomach)

All of this starting tomorrow!

Hey mama, I'm right there with you except we're already ttc. I'm in the 2ww right now. I have around 50 pounds I would like to lose. I know I am overweight, but didn't really realize how much weight I had put on until I saw myself on video this weekend! bawling.gif YIKES! I do NOT want to look like this.

I too eat all whole foods, very little processed foods, and lots of live food. My weakness is sweets, which I will pick up while shopping, and portions. So I am getting serious about this now. I usually do really well for a couple of weeks then lose motivation. I'm just going to keep watching that video and remind myself that looking like I do is not fun and not worth eating what I please! :)

I'd like to lose some (ideally about 20-35lbs) before we TTC.  I'm doing the New Rules of Lifting for Women and really love their workouts (and have seen some great results with inches lost thumb.gif).  Unfortunately, my weight hasn't budged much recently so I'm working on my diet at the moment.  It sounds like we're all in the same boat with sweets!  lol.gif  My weaknesses are Diet Coke and chocolate.  Otherwise I eat pretty much entirely whole foods from scratch, no sugar/artificial sweeteners etc.  It's just stupid Diet Coke and chocolate that I need to eliminate, why do they have to taste so good?  irked.gif

Welcome ladies! I was worried I would be alone here! lol

Chocolate is totally my vice. I am a true addict. It is so not ok. I am not much for soda. I used to be but when I got pregnant I got crunchier and crunchier and I kind of talked myself out of being ok with drinking it. I totally have an issue with after I put DD to bed and I am like *ME* time! What can I indulge in? I got Julies organic ice cream sandwiches and they only have 160 calories and 9 grams of sugar...which still is not great. I wish I didn't feel like I need it but what the heck I just eat dinner and nothing after? lol

Ideally losing 60-65lbs is what I really need to do, but man is it hard. I am p/o'd too b/c I feel like I eat so healthy, but I am bigger or as big as so many people who eat complete and utter junk! irked.gif Oh well that is life right!

Feeling really good so far today! I have been eating well and controlling portions. I am still BFing DD (but never skipped a beat with AF) so I don't really want to do a calorie restricting diet b/c I have BTDT and it works for a week or so then I crash. So I am eating when hungry but no carb snacks.

Weight in today was more than I would have liked to see...

195.6lbs ouch! I was 238 when I gave birth though...

So this is what I have eaten today:

Breakfast: 2 cups of coffee with International Delight FV creamer (no added sugar besides what's in the creamer)

                2 eggs over easy

Lunch:      1 cup mixed greens salad with very little Greek dressing (I am not a big dressing person)

1/2 grass-fed beef stuffed pepper with tomato, garlic, and onion (leftovers from last night) so it was probably 1/4lb beef in there.

Snacks:    1/4 cup mixed raw nuts

I hear you on not wanting to drop your calories because of BFing.  I was able to lose about 35lbs while nursing DD (it took FOREVER but at least it happened winky.gif) and basically I eliminated all sugar/artificial sweeteners and exercised consistently (again eating whole foods).  Then I had a miscarriage (a BIG motivation for me on why I want to get to a healthy wait before TTCing again!!) and since then my weight hasn't budged but I've lost quite a few inches.  I've never counted calories, I just did intuitive eating and am now doing heavy lifting.  During my brief pregnancy I got sloppy about avoiding sugar so that's what I'm working on now.

Oh, one recipe I LOVE (but we simply can't afford here because cheese is just too expensive!) is ricotta cheese +big spoon cocoa powder+a splash of vanilla+maple syrup to taste.  You can add some flax seed or nuts in there to up the nutrition.  I've found eating full fat desserts with natural sweeteners is a huge help to me.  Unfortunately, locally, I can't get blue agave at all (my favorite) and maple syrup is ridiculously expensive irked.gif so I'm stuck using honey, which is my least favorite when it comes to a blood sugar spike/taste.  I'm working on eating fruit.  I've been eating  A LOT of watermelon lately and that helps.

I only have a sec, but have you ladies ever made raw chocolate? It's a life saver for me. I will post a recipe in a while if anyone wants. I haven't made it for a long time, but thinking I need to soon!

Dinner:        2 chicken legs, 1 cup broccoli, 1/2 cup mashed potatoes

So IDK I feel like I did pretty well today. I drank 8+ glasses of water too. Sometimes I felt pretty hungry still...

Physmom hug2.gif so sorry for your loss.

AmBam I would like that recipe! I think that's pretty good we are starting out at the same weight!

Ok, I suck at journaling my food, but thought I would try to post for a couple of days just to see where I'm at.

Today:

toast (homemade whole wheat) w/ sm. amount of butter
half of an orange

1/2 cup ww spegetti w/ meat sauce(burger was wild game)
1/2 cup steamed brocolli

2 lindor truffles...one white/one dark chocolate (see this is my weakness)

curried quinoa
green salad

baked banana dessert (banana baked with choc chips and mini marshmallows)

Should have laid off the chocolate a little huh?! eyesroll.gif

My raw chocolate is cocao powder, coconut oil, agave(honey, maple syrup, organic sugar, whatever you prefer), ground flax seed, a little salt and you can add raw almonds if you wish. Very yummy and I have zero guilt eating this. I don't have exact amounts but I will make it and pay attention to how much I put in. YUM!

mmm just the coconut oil is making my mouth water!

At least you only had 2 truffles I would have downed the bag lol

Pilates kicked my butt and everything hurts today!

I don't think I'm going to actually write out all my food intake, I'm too lazy winky.gif but I am working on getting back to no sugar/no artificial sweeteners. I had chocolate yesterday so here's Day 1. I'll try and post everyday to keep myself accountable. We have a ton of Diet Pepsi at home so I'll just have to let DH have it.

Yesterday I got in a GREAT workout. I did a lot of lifting and really upped my weights a lot! joy.gif I also got in a short interval workout after that. I now have two days of rest before lifting again (I do 3x a week with a day off in between and then 2 days off). I might get in a run, though, because I feel pretty energetic today, we'll see. Last night, though, I was eating great and then I had the stupid idea to buy chips and had some of that chocolate. So here we go with Day 1 again. banghead.gif

Started off the day great then it went kind of sour but not too badly. I went on a 2 or so mile hike with DD on my back so I was pretty sweaty!

Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 coffees

Lunch: 1/4 cup beans 1/2 pork strips (I wasn't feeling hungry)

Snack: 1/2 cup cottage cheese and 1/2 cup blueberries

            banana and peanut butter

like 5 tsp of peanut butter....

Dinner: 2 chicken legs with BBq sauce, 1 1/2 baked potatoes with butter and sour cream, and corn

I had a good day today! Well, I did have a few chips this afternoon but otherwise really good.  I also made homemade pizza for dinner. yummy.gif I picked up DD from school early so we spent sometime outside, playing and then went upstairs and danced a bit. orngbiggrin.gif Yesterday was my big lifting+interval training day so today I was just taking it easy exercisewise.

sosurreal... have you tried adding in some veggies to your eggs?  It helps me start off the day better and gives me more volume so I'm not as hungry later on.

I hate veggies in my eggs lol I'm never hungry in the am and was always a breakfast skipper so even eating the eggs is a hassle lol. I get the most hungry around 1 or 2pm

I'm just jumping in here ladies but I am on the same page.  I didn't start out at my ideal weight when I got pregnant with my son (but lost 20 lbs to get there so felt okay about it) and I am still 12 up from that weight (in a PERFECT world, I'd probably lose 30 - 35 lbs).  I have been thinking it was going to come off more than it has (I am still breastfeeding so I must be eating lots to compensate - my son is 21 mos).  We were going to TTC at the end of May but I am now pushing it off by a month to give myself 5 weeks of nutrition and working out so my body will be better prepared.  I feel like the clock is ticking due to my age and the number of kids we want so I don't want to keep putting it off but I feel pretty disappointed with myself that I am still struggling with this.  I went to the grocery store today and got lots of good produce so hopefully that will help.  I don't have any specific vices but lots of little ones - I'll pick at pieces of cheese here and there, eat a pretzel, have a second beer, have some m&ms - I can even go without snacking but then I'll eat a ton at each meal so that doesn't work as well either.  I am going to try to only allow myself fruit, veggies and dip (cottage cheese, yogurt, hummus) between meals.  And I am going to try that raw chocolate recipe too!

Welcome nd!

I haven't been posting as promised b/c well I am having a really stressful week and I am an emotional eater big time! Enough excuses I need to post no matter what!

However my battery on my scale died and it is some weird big round battery I will try to find today!

DD has molars coming in and has been nursing EVERY HOUR OR LESS all day and night and I haven't slept in three days. How is that for a nearly 20 m/o? UGH

Hope everyone is doing better than  me!

Hi!  Can I join you?  I have been putting off TTC for a few reasons and one major reason is my weight and fitness level.  I really can't afford to put it off for long because I am 37 and I have a 2 1/2 year old!  I don't have much to lose, honestly, but I definitely want to be fit.  I attribute my easy first pregnancy to being really fit when I got pregnant and throughout my pregnancy.  I have really let that slide though and I am afraid that if I got pregnant now, I wouldn't enjoy it by focusing too much on the weight gain and body changes.  I'd like to go into it in a better state of mind, if that makes any sense at all!

I also won't be posting what I eat each day because I use fitday.com to track.  In fact, I just started back with that today.  Seeing calories add up is truly motivational for me.  I also eat healthy foods and I am a vegetarian but I am a major snacker and I also enjoy microbrewed beers, which tend to have a lot of calories.

I have to lay off the excuses - my toddler is one of the world's worst sleepers and I have used being tired as an excuse for a really long time for not exercising.  I will use this thread as accountability for eating well and for exercising. So I will be checking in here and getting motivation from you all!
