Ack! I'm skipping my run today because it's really, really windy and I hate running into a stiff wind. Sometimes I even get wheezy, and I have a cold that's moved down into my chest. But now I have the restless feeling I get whenever I skip a run.

There's a marathon in my city this Saturday. (The Charlottesville Marathon.) I'm not participating--I'm not nearly in good enough shape to run a marathon.

Goals:

360 min aerobic exercise (at least 4 times jogging)
350+140 situps (make up deficit from last week)
125 pushups

I'm going to try for the 30 minutes jogging without stopping with the jogging stroller today. I found that going up hill and into the wind were a lot easier without it, though. We'll see. I felt kinda naked and exposed running without the stroller. Every other jogger I saw waved at me yesterday as well. I'd never noticed that before. How odd.

Daylily -- I'm getting over a cold, and I tend to get a bit wheezy after I run as well. It doesn't seem to affect me much, though. I hope we both kick these colds soon!

Dh gave me his cold (where is that smiley with the sinus headache?) -- I fought it valiantly but succombed on Saturday morning. I made it out Sat a.m. for 4 miles but then just didn't have the breathing capacity on Sunday nor today.

So I was one day short of my goal for last week and I'm not sure how this week will go. But, I on my Saturday run, I did the four miles with a 9 min 45 sec per mi pace (I was really trying to be under 10 min/mi) so that made me feel good.

good running to all who are well this week

It was the cold that kept me from going more than 4 times last week-- I even skipped Saturday, though went yesterday. I'm actually looking forward to going out again today. I think I'm past the worst of it, and I tend to ignore my illnesses anyways.

Shatz -- 4 miles at under 10 min/mile! Awsome! I think I'm hovering at just about the 10min/mile pace. Depressing since I used to run more like an 8.5 min/mile.

YAY!!! I did 3 run 10/walk 1 sets!!! It was pretty hard coming back, against NW winds of 20km/h!!!
I ran 3 miles exactly!!!!!

woohoo, Mamasoleil! Way to go! It gets easier from here on out.

I'm bummed because it is supposed to be 70 degrees here this afternoon and I want to go for a run so badly but my head feels like a bowling ball on my neck. I think I will defer until at least tomorrow. If it were just a stuffy nose or sore throat, I would get out there but the pressure in my ears is wicked.

When I was pregnant, I would always say to my co-worker who runs at lunch, "run a mile for me" so to all the MDC runnin' mamas, please run a mile for me today.
Schatz, I got your mile covered I need to keep a few for myself, though.

I went for 38 minutes yesterday with a brief break at 23 minutes. If I ever took the same route twice, I might drive it to see the distance. Based on my 9:30-9:45 pace I set a few weeks ago, I figure it's just under 4 miles.

Good job MS! It was when I got to the 10 minute sets that I started losing track of the time and forgetting to stop and walk (that's why I've stopped looking that the San Benadino training page). Now I just set a minimum goal and I have to run longer than that. Yesterday my goal was 20 minutes.

While I was running yesterday, my husband went biking. He took a route that covered the first part of the 10k I'm going to run. He scoped out the hill situation for me. So... It looks like there's a ~1/4 gentle hill in the first or second mile, and then a fairly steep but short hill in mile 5. It's mostly along the river and then skips up into downtown for the finish.

Oh yeah -- I also meant to report: My freshly washed jeans are loose. Very loose. They look a tad silly. Now I want a scale.

Can I join? Once upon a time I was actually a pretty competitive runner....now, I can barely make 15 minutes.

I started up again last week. My first day I did 20 min, next was 12, next 15, then b/c it was so cold I did tae bo inside on the fourth day.

I ran 20 today. My goal is to be able to do the races in late summer/early fall somewhat competitively. Not win, but not be the last person either. KWIM?

Oh and even though I'm at my pre-preg weight. I am not at my prepreg size. My pants are still too tight in the waist.

Hi! Welcome!

I started running again 6 weeks ago after a pretty long break. I started at running 5 minute sets and giving myself a 1 or 2 minute walking break. In a very short time, I'm now up to running much longer continuously. I credit this group for asking for regular updates. It's been great.

I also decided that I'm running a 10k (6.2 miles) on June 6. My goal is to make it without walking, but no other time goal.

I totally understand about the pre-preg weight/size problem. I figure I'm now under my pre-preg weight, but my pre-preg clothes simply fit wrong. I can get them on, but the cut is weird. I'm certainly a different shape.

I added situps to my running routine to try to keep back problems away. It's had a fairly significant impact on my middle. I'm actually starting to get some definition around the sides!

So... Tell us when your race will be and give us regular updates on your progress.

Well I gotta look for a race. I usually play for about 6 weeks after I'm able to run consistently. The consistently is because I have to take dd in the jog stroller so the weather has to be warm enough. I think we're close to that though. I only had to skip one day last week because it was too cold.

I tried to do workout tapes over the winter to maintain some of my *inshapedness,* but I burnt out toward the end of the winter. Although being able to go out there and run 15-20 minutes straight (very slow mind you) tells me I maintained something over the winter. Usually I have to do the run 2 min, walk 1 for a 15 minute span to start.

I definitely have a layer around my upper hips/lower waist that was never there before. If I gained weight it was always in my butt and thighs.

so who has races when?

what's your favorite race you've ever done? Mine is probably the ghouls and goblins 5k. It 's a halloween run, it's short, fast and tons of fun. Everyone dresses up and it's just a blast.

woohoo for you! isn't that a great feeling? I have a pair of jeans that I got in college that I use as my measuring stick - right now they are loose-fitting too.

babybugmama

I am running a race on April 24 - 5-miles (or I guess they now list it as 8k) -- it's called Crazylegs in honor of Crazylegs Elroy Hirsch who was a football player and former athletic director here at the Univ of Wisconsin. There should be about 10,000 runners - it's lots of fun. The finish line is in the stadium on the football field.

I also hope to run a 10-mile race during the summer festival in the town where I live. But, we're probably leaving to go visit my brother that weekend and I'm not sure my dh and parents will want to delay our departure until after the race and if I get pregnant before then, I doubt I will run 10 miles on a hot July morning. So this one is iffy.

I could also think about running part of the MadCity Marathon at the end of May but I think I'll hold off on that one --- dh won't be keen on me dropping 20 bucks all the time for races when I can run around my neighborhood for free. :LOL

babybugmama - where are you? Three of us here are in the northern midwest or further north so we definitely understand about the weather. But, if you have any special requests, just ask Geofizz to put in a good word for you. (http://www.mothering.com/discussions...hreadid=128966)

So... What is it about cold weather and running? Eh? We've got Proudmom in AZ, but the rest of us seem to be living in very cold climates.

Babybugmama -- I made a fleece bag that ties onto the jogging stroller and I can zip up around my daughter. This keeps her pretty warm. If it's really cold and windy, I put a cover over the stroller. It's actually a cover designed for an umbrella stroller, but it actually fits (barely). I also did videos during the worst of the winter, but I tire of them so fast. Besides, the TV is in the basement, and the cement floor was starting to take a toll on my joints. I'm happy to be back out running.

The only other race I've run is the Bay to Breakers. It's a fun 7.5 mile race that has such a party attitude that you don't even realize you're running. Of course, I ran that just after a season of high school varsity soccer and I finished easily in under an hour.

Yeah, me too!!! I started running mid February. I started changing my diet January 29th. I've lost 15 lbs...but feels like 20 lbs. I'm wearing pants right now, that were always tight fitting on me, prepreg, and they are loose!!! It's so great. I feel so strong and powerful!!!

I'm running my first race 5ks May 29th, in Ottawa, it's the Capital Run. Should be interesting, my goal is to run it without stopping. Then in August, I'm attempting a 10k run.

I'm in ohio...That's a good idea about the fleece thing...but what about the thin seat that she's sitting on? Yeah I got sick of the videos too. I get bored with the repetition...isn't that ironic?

I will definitely place an order for some spring like weather from geofizz!

Every fall I have a set of races I always do, except the year I was pregnant and gave birth...They range from 5k to 8k. The turkey trot is an 8k. I've wanted to do the jingle bell run during the holiday season, but I always seem to have put the shoes away for the winter. I wish I could motivate myself more in the winter. Maybe now when it gets cold again I'll do better.

The training log is a lot like the log in this book I treat like a bible for running. I've done that in the past, but I thought to start more advanced this time since I think I'm in better shape. I should be able to do three miles in a few weeks. I'm probably only doing close to 1 1/2 right now. But we'll see.: :LOL

The fleece thing I made is a bag. It has buttons along the side and bottom to close it up around my daughter. On the back are two ties that loop through the spare set of loops for the straps. Hmmm. I can't find a picture on the web of anything similar. I know I'm describing this badly, but there is fleece under her as well as over. This has the added advantage of the fact that she can't kick it off.

Maybe I should take a picture of her modeling it.

Where in Ohio are you? I've got a job interview in Columbus next week!

The Runneroo here:

Is pretty close to what I made. I don't have the nylon shell, though.
I'm in yellow springs...about 45 min to an hour from columbus depending on where in col.. what are you interviewing for? something geological

That does look very comfy, but man it is a bit pricey...maybe by fall that would work financially.

This is such a cool thread...I am already more geared up to get consistent with my running. Who knows maybe I'll break some of my personal records!
