A Child's Seasonal Treasury

What is the deal with this book!? Everyone who mentions it does so in glowing terms, all the reviews I read are wonderful, the little snippets I've seen are lovely, but it's not in print anymore?! I've been starting to think about/gather up a few supplies and ideas for my daughter, and tonight hopped on to amazon to see about buying a copy of this book. As much as I would love to see a copy for myself, at 199$ new and nearly 60$ for a used copy, there is no way I am buying one!

Where do you find your own copies? Is it truly out of print, or has a small publisher perhaps picked up a run somewhere?

I bought a copy years ago, before it was out of print. It is certainly a nice looking book, but i don't use it much, honestly. I think there are better seasonal celebration books, and if you have a good source for verses and songs then you're all set! I wouldn't pay anything near 60 bucks for this book! Just my opinion. innocent.gif

I got one for $6 at a used bookstore and I think I overpaid.  This book has nice trappings--lovely watercolor paintings, thick paper, a ribbon for marking spots.  With that said, I haven't used it much.  I think you are much better off with Enki kindergarten, Little Acorn Learning, or one of the Wynestones seasonal verse books.

The poems/songs in that book didn't flow very well for us.  I found a much easier time with songs, poems, and fingerplays from other sources which have a better rhythm.  The flow also made it hard to repeat them without directly looking at the book which is something I wanted to avoid.  I would suggest investing in other sources.

The best part of the book, IMO, wasn't the seasonal stuff, but the section in the beginning that had verses that went along with different parts of your routine (hand washing, shoe tying, coloring, painting, etc). Definitely wouldn't pay a ton for it.
