Unique Massachusetts/ New England Wedding Gift Ideas?

We're going to a wedding for some friends in Canada this summer.  I'd like to bring a gift that is unique or interesting from MA or New England. 

I don't have a set budget, but I'm thinking of something that falls between salt water taffy and the Gurgling Cod.  The Cod is what I would really love to give, but the price is prohibitive.  But it has the right 'uniqueness'. 

Any suggestions are welcome, regardless of cost. I'll never know what might inspire me!

Did you already think of something?

You could always find a gift you like and add something inexpensive for fun.  We ended up doing this for a family member because they had registered a and we had remembered that it was much easier to deal with the gifts we got that were off our registry.  I found some bog cranberries (chocolate covered cranberries) and a bottle of local wine.  I'd say maple syrup- but since you said Canada, that may not be a novelty. 

There are sites that you can ship someone a lobster, lobster pot and all the stuff (bibs, shell crackers, etc.)   My dh wanted to do that, but I remembered his family member was allergic to shellfish.  Not sure if there is more hassle to ship that to Canada, though.

how about a basket of various smaller items that are local to New England?? Maine blueberry preserves, taffy from somewhere...Maple candies etc from Vermont, Another PP mentioned cranberries...Local cape cod cranberries (it's where I live I have to give a shout out to the local business)...Some homemade candles or honey, some homemade soaps made locally in New England using certain ingredients that are a New England thing...

Is a basket tacky for a wedding? It sounds tacky to me...NM

Not exactly the same as the Shreve Crump gurgling cod but Black Ink in Harvard Square (and probably on Charles Street in Beantown) has a version that's not too pricey. Give them a ring!
