33mo DS still wont eat veggies! WWYD?

The title says it all.

His Ped told me not to worry since he eats a lot of fruit.(24mo visit)

Well, I do worry. I can occasionally sneak in sweet potato into his pancakes & homemade french fries. THATS IT!

I do put veggies onto his plate every lunch/dinner. He wont even eat tomato sauce on noodles anymore. Ugg.

I have been thinking of supplementing him with one of the 'powder' veggie mixes. dont know if that will work since he wont drink smoothies either.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I think you're doing the right things.  Put them on his plate, even if he won't eat them, and then sneak them in when you can.  I wouldn't stress over it and I wouldn't make it an issue with him.  You can't force a kid to eat but you can keep offering.  If you and DH eat a healthy and varied diet, eventually he will too.  My 2.5 year old kept turning his nose up to veggies and then, last night, he downed a bunch of broccoli shrug.gif.  Maybe the better question is how to sneak the veggies in (for nutritional value) in a way that he'll eat?  I've heard this one recommended a number of times.

Ok I had to do the math since I had no idea how old 33 months was, LOL  I think I stopped counting months at 2 years.....

Just keep doing what you are doing, offering an assortment and modeling good nutrition by eating a large variety yourself. Don't bribe, cajole, beg, one-more-bite him. Don't give one set of foods more "value" then another group.

if you haven't read the book "Child of Mine-Feeding with Love and Good Sense" or "How to get your Kids to Eat-but not too much" I highly recommend them. They are both by Ellyn Satter. She is a wonderful resource when navigating the mindfields of feeding children!!

My 3 year old is like this.  I did purees with him, and I regret it.  After he "weaned" off them, he wouldn't touch a real veggie.  I sneak things in when I can, and now that his little brother is eating table food, he tries new things more often than he used to.

I think the bigger of a deal you make it, the bigger of a power issue it will become. Just keep offering them as a normal part of meals, model eating them, and don't stress out. Maybe offer them in fun ways too... I make homemade mac and cheese and always stir in corn, broccoli, peas, whatever. I also make peas with cheese sauce. Or just make sure they are flavorful and appealing to look at- add herbs and other seasonings, don't overcook them, offer mixes for color. My dd also thinks it's hilarious to eat frozen peas. One day I ate one in front of her made a joke about it, so she did it too. Now she'll eat a handful of frozen peas with me making silly jokes the whole time "oh no! did you just eat a frozen pea?"
