and said "look Mommy, I drew a hexagon!"

He usually draws circles, lines, and variations of those, but out of nowhere he drew this hexagon (and I quickly snatched up the paper to save it.. lol)

Wow - that is fantastic!!!!

Wow, I'm impressed a 2.5 year old knows what a hexagon is, let alone draw one. Very impressive.

So cool!!!  Love that he knows what one is, could draw one AND announce it so eloquently :)

My DD, 24 mo, has drawn circles, L's, I's, N's V's and a W !   She is so impressed with herself and so am I :)

man, my kid doesn't even want to learn what a circle is much less draw hexagons and tell me that's what she did.  Super awesome :D

hehe thanks mamas! i was pretty impressed too.... he has also drawn a "giant egg" a "rainbow" and a "rocket ship"... all of which I think he drew by accident but then realized they looked like those things (which they do!).. I have saved them all so far.... He has always been ahead of the game developmentally, and I am an artist, so I guess that is where this is coming from. ;)

That is really cool - be proud!!

That's very cool:)

I'm always amazed at the artistic abilities and differences in little ones. I know a mom with twin 3 year old boys. One boy does drawings like that - very detailed, very accurate, very clear. The other just scribbles still, and could care less.

Looks like an organic chemist in the making. LOL

That is so cool! You must spend a lot of time teaching him, and he must spend a lot of time listening to you. Kudos to you both!

My almost 3 year old will identify a hexagon out of a series of shapes but she is nowhere near drawing one. She will draw squiggles and tell me that they are such-and-such shape or letter but they very rarely resemble what she's going for. Also, she still calls rectangles "squaretangles," which I think is just brilliant.

actually I haven't spent much time at all teaching him.. we used to sit and draw/color together once every couple of days before DS2 was born 6 months ago.. and I would draw shapes, letters, etc but mostly trucks and bikes, lol.. and he would "color them in".. and since Ian was born we haven't done much together at all, but he still likes to sit and draw himself. he really didn't draw it on purpose I don't think, just sort of drew it and then realized what he had done. I have asked him to draw another one several times and he hasn't again so far. ;) but like I said, he draws lots of circles, shapes, lines, etc
