any recommendations for my friend?

she has a 4 week old who loves to be held. the baby is also very gassy and somewhat colicy. i, of course, suggested she try a sling and she is up for the idea. after spending a couple of hours with them (i didn't have my slings then) i realized that she is really only comfortable being held belly down across your forearm. i was going to bring her my hab to try. i figured that with a 2 1/2 year old running around too - this would give her total hands free. but - the baby doesn't really like being held upright? any suggestions?

thanks, lorena

btw - i'm posting this at a some other boards too - sorry for the repeat question

How about the Mama Baby slings? Because of the stretchy fabric the slings are really easy to manipulate and get into all kinds of different positions. I think the instructions may even include something on this hold? (If not the instructions, then I think I read a post about it once.) You could probably do this with a "regular" sling too by placing baby in a football hold belly down, but I suspect it would be easier with the knit fabric.

Good luck to your friend!

The Mama Babies are distributed through Maya Wrap (www.mayawrap.com), so I imagine a lot of the MW distributors carry them. Or you can check www.peppermint.com - I know they stock them there.

I replied w/ some suggestions on the babywearing yahoo list for you, but I forgot to delete the digest or change the subject line, so it's "Digest (number)" in the subject line.

Just didn't want you to miss it. I suggested the shoulder-hold like I've seen w/ 2 mamababies, you might be able to do that w/ a stretchy wrap somehow, or else football hold w/ baby curled around tummy to wearer's side, sort of a cradle hold on the hip, w/ baby facing in and all snug.
