Benefits of nursing a 3y/o?

Thread Starter

DD is nearly 3 and the other day I was having a conversation with a good friend, and I could tell that (in a nice way) she was trying to tell me that DD is too old to nurse.

Part of me wants to wean her because the thought of tandem nursing kinda freaks me out.. (jealousy issues??) BUT... if she gets sick, I don't mind nursing (when my milk comes in again... currently 22 weeks pregnant) because it was a HUGE benefit.

ANYWAYS... what are the benefits of nursing beyond 3?? I'd at least like to have something to come back with besides the whole, I-know-its-not socially-acceptable-but-its-what-i-do.

Comments like this weigh on me and then I begin to second guess my choices.  Not sure why I let comments like this get under my skin...

on tandeming: I think it has actually has kept jealousy issues from being to bad, because DD knows that once I'm done nursing the baby she can have her turn to nurse and get mama all to herself.

benefits to nursing a 3 year old: easy comfort and security, bonding time, fills nutritional gaps, antibodies, decreased risk of breast cancer (for both mom and baby), diabeties, and other health problems.
