I was at Target and saw they sell breast milk alcohol test kits!! Measures the alcohol level in your breastmilk! I was thinking if your baby's old enough for you to be drinking enough that the alcohol level concerns you, that baby would be spending the night with grandma, sleeping through the night, or whatever and by morning your milk would be ok. I'm not against alcohol use but this test...I just don't know what to think LOL

The general belief is that once you feel okay (ie., no longer buzzed/drunk), your body has processed the alcohol and it's no longer in your milk. I would not, personally, buy a test for that purpose.

The test is too sensitive - it picks up even a trace of alcohol in your blood. I looked into how they determined what was too much and safe for baby - and the makers said they don't know what was safe so they settled for .02
I did a test the morning after drinking and it was positive. So that was a box of tests wasted.

I agree, too sensitive. I drink an occasional glass of white wine & when DD is ready to nurse 2 or 3 hours later, I nurse her. I am in no way neurologically impaired nor is my milk tainted, but MilkScreen comes up positive.I used it twice - once 2 hours after and once the MORNING after a single glass of wine, and both positive. Tossed the rest of the box. As for baby's age, occasional light alcohol use is more of a cultural no-no than a genuine problem. Most babies older than 3 months will have no reaction to small amounts of alcohol.
(I just went to paste the kellymom article & noticed a PP already did so
