October '09 Toddlers Check in

Thread Starter

I went back 6 pages and couldn't find our thread, so I thought I'd do a shout-out!

Where is everyone?  How are YOU and your toddlers?  Anyone else ready for summer?

We are trying to buy a house and move, so we've been fairly busy.  If anyone wants to add me on Facebook, please PM me!

so funny - have been spending a lot of time on a particular pro-board and completely neglected this one so was starting to wonder where there was a thread for oct 09'ers

same here re. fb - i'll pm later - got to get to bed

but quick update - me - i quit one of my jobs...the online writing one, so now am working more at a clinic and still with the airline too. LOVE my clinic work but am feeling a bit crazed with having the boys in the mornings and working every afternoon and evening except wednesdays where i have the whole day with the boys

callum turned 4 last month - 4 is awesome. everett is 20mths and chipped one of his top teeth - plus i think the top front 2 are a bit rotten so dentist on tues :( i'm trying not to freak out about it but feel awful about it. also, don't know if he is self-weaning early or if it is a nursing strike, but 3 days into refusing to nurse :(

everett is our little talker - he is almost a year ahead of callum on this one. he is talking in several sentences. it is seriously blowing my mind considering how different it was with cal. he's very good with his please and thank you's but he is mimicking pretty much every sound we throw at him. am not liking that one of his fave words is MINE. my fave lines are when he says I WANT A BITE, and 3,2,1 BLASS AWWWF (until last week blast-off was raa raaaaaaaaaaa)

hey there everybody!  i haven't been on here in forever!  we just bought our first home about 2 months ago, so we have been very busy this year.  reagan is doing great!  she's still in the 95th% for her height and 75th% for her weight.  she is a picky eater though which drives me crazy: chicken, turkey, sausage, hamburger, bacon, peas, applesauce, cheese, sometimes eggs, sometimes oatmeal (but usually just to get to the raisins in it).  that's about it.  she's definitely a carnivore!  i have recently come to the decision to start weaning her (daytime only for now).  this is in the hopes that we can nightwean her and transition her to her own bed this summer.  she just wakes me up so often to nurse during the night and it is really becoming a struggle for me.  she's a talker, but unfortunately we can't understand all of it.  she can count to 3 and is very good at please and thank you.  we've taught her some baby sign, but it's funny because she will only sign a word once she can say it too!  hope everyone's doing well!

I'm glad to see this thread!  I don't seem to have any time for forums anymore but I do pop in here and look for Oct 09 moms when I'm here.

Tristan is 19mo and very active.  We don't actually have his "18 month" appointment until next week; he seems very tall to me so I suspect he'll still be in the upper growth percentages.  His feet are a 6.5, while his 5-year-old sister's are only a 9.5.  He isn't a big talker but he's been busting out with new words lately, useful things like "bus" or "dirt" and then random stuff like, say, "doodle" or "antenna".  His one and only phrase is "mama and dada".  He isn't a good eater either, mostly he only wants to eat meat and cracker/cereal type hard crunchy snacks, or apple slices. This drives me nuts.  He's very sensitive to some foods, though -- like last week he decided he liked pineapple and ate a bunch, the next day he had nasty diahrrea.  He loves cow's milk products but they don't seem to love him back, but goat's milk wasn't really any better with him.

Lately he is really loving having books read to him.  We're doing swimming lessons which he is enthusiastic about.  Oh, and he peed in the potty 5 times out of 6 or 7 tries a few weeks ago, then decided not to sit on the potty any more.

Nice to "see" you all again! :)

Lyra is 19.5 months, doesn't stop dancing EVER, and no one here taught her how to do it. She has about 25 words, if I had to guess, and has started putting together two word sentences, notably "Hi, dad" and "no way" LOL. She is 23 pounds and 34", so tall and slim like her daddy. She is working on cutting her second molars, so hopefully we'll be done teething for a while soon. Her favourite activities are reading and being naked. She's not even close to interested in the potty yet.

She is also going to be a big sister in the fall. I'm 16 weeks pregnant, due exactly one month later than Lyra was, on November 24. We are planning a home birth with a midwife

Congrats, Vyky! It's nice to hear from all of you. Dylan is 20 months now. He's still super tiny. 21 pounds and about 30". It's starting to get to worry time. Our new ped is giving us to his 2 yr check up before we start testing to figure out what's up. He finally started walking at 17 months and is a non stop moving machine. He doesn't have many words but seems like he talks all day long! He's a picky eater, too. We still struggle with naps and night sleep. He's daytime weaned (except for nap) but nurses at night still. I'm hoping we can wean soon as I have some medical issues that I can't totally deal with since I'm still nursing. I'm so glad summer is here....it's fun to go do stuff outdoors with him! I hope everyone is doing great!

Here's a recent picture, I don't know why I can't get it to show up here, but there's a link:

Dylan is sooo cute. Lyra was a super late walker too, she was coming up on 17 months as well.

I just noticed that Jenn is going to be a G-MA! Holy cow, congrats!!!!!

Well, we ended up at the ped last Friday because Tristan seems to have a sinus infection that's been going on for awhile.  She gave me a prescription for antibiotics but agreed that since he's not particularly miserable we can just give it a few more weeks and see how it goes. I was afraid he might have an ear infection too but nope.  It turns out he's 27lb (with clothes and diaper on--so maybe actually 26lb?), but they didn't check his height.

Lyla and Dylan are both adorable!  We just got some family pics taken this weekend and I'm crossing my fingers that they're good.  I never seem to be able to get Tristan to stand still and look at the camera all at the same time.

Tristan isn't particularly interested in the potty by himself, but I don't believe in the "readiness" stuff. I highly recommend the book Diaper Free Before Three -- which has a great discussion of potty training from a historical/research perspective and which convinced me when my DD was little that there's no value in waiting to PT -- and that there's no reason we can't be happily and confidently out of diapers by 2 or maybe 2.5 at the latest. In the mean time, of course, he's figured out how to undo the velcro tabs on his cloth diapers, so now I'm selling them all and buying snapping ones instead because otherwise I'm afraid he's going to be one of those toddlers who gets his poopy diaper off and uses it as a paintbrush.

He hasn't been much of a talker up 'tili now, but suddenly he's bursting out with words.  Just this morning he came up with "eat" and "dance", and this afternoon he was saying "go".  I think he must've finally his a word explosion phase. His pronunciation is getting much better lately, too, though you still can only understand what he says as long as you get the context.

i'm reviving this

haven't been on this board for a long time

hope all is well with everyone

doesn't feel like everett is a toddler anymore. we've add ups and downs but he potty learned a bit before he turned 2 and started going diaper free at night 2 months ago

he is way ahead of where his older brother was verbally...it's almost crazy

he is on the smaller side and very slim

some other stuff but want to see if anyone else is still around before i write a novel!
