Farm using toxic pesticide next to toddler's preschool / daycare - WHAT WOULD YOU DO ??????????...

My son has attended this preschool / daycare since last August. It is a home-base preschool. When I first signed him up, it was located next to animals, horses, sheeps and an organic (non-pesticide using) farm. The woman running the daycare moved recently to a new, bigger location. The problem is that it is within 600 feet of a giant farm. She was falsely told by the landlady and possibly neighbors that this was an organic farm and she moved 2 months ago. My son has been going there, and is very very happy, and loves to go. I love her and feel very secure with him attending - or did anyway.

Last week, twenty five signs reading DANGER were posted all along the farm's property and plastic tarps were spread out - SURPRISE - they are not an organic farm and were fumigating with a possible carcinogen called TELONE.  I am 8 months pregnant, and we are about to move to a new house in 3 weeks, which means my sweet toddler is going to have his world utterly turned upside down as it is. I was planning on keep him at the preschool / daycare all summer, as he loves it and his sense of security and well being from attending are very high. HOWEVER - now that I've researched TELONE and found it is a known possible carcinogen (cancer causer) and can cause all sorts of horrid health things, in me (being 8 months pregnant) and in him, playing outside in the sunshine 600 feet away from this field, I am having serious issues with this. I'm worried if I drop him off, I will get exposed and it will affect my unborn baby - I'm worried it will cause him any number of ailments which are listed in the pesticide databse - right up there with childhood leukemia, from pesticide drift. I am furious and frustrated that the owner of the daycare did not do due-dillegence on her research and simply took the word of the landlady and my son has probably already been exposed since this occurred last week. I did not send him this week, despite the fact I have prepaid for the month (in the hundreds of dollars) - I want to ask for a refund and pull him from the school - but I really like the lady and I believe she is just as upset as I am, however it doesn't change the fact I need daycare, desperately right now, am short on cash so I can't just turn around and pay someone else - we're in a contrat with her - WHAT WOULD YOU DO ????????????????? HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     I'm keeping him home because I can't knowingly expose him and leave him at a daycare where the soil fumigant poison gas can drift over to them playing at any moment. Here's the link for what I found on this particular chemical. WHAT DO YOU THINK ?????????????????????????   http://www.pesticideresearch.com/docs/SecondhandPcides.pdf   - is it worth the emotional upheaval of pulling him from the daycare, during this massive transition of pregnancy, and moving to protect him from the longterm health effects of this toxic chemical which may expose him, (26 months old) and me (with an unborn 8 month old baby) to god knows what kind of prenatal developmental neurotoxins - now and in the future ??????????????

Yikes!! I am so sorry!! I would definitely keep my kid out of that daycare, despite the emotional effects of doing that. Can you stay homewith your kids while she moves her daycare to another location? I can't imagine she would want to stay there, or that she would have enough moms continue to bring their kids there if this is right next door.

What a mess! Im so sorry. I am very into spreading the word about the dangers of environemtal toxins and pesticides. We only eat organic produce and we use all organic lawn care. There is no way knowing what I know and making the kind of choices I make in regards to minimizing exposure to these types of chemicals that I would knowingly allow my DS to be in the daycare you describe. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be ea EASY resolution to your problem, but at the end of the day, you are responsible for the wellbeing of yourself, your children and your family. Im sure that you will be able to work something out for him - not that it will be easy, but alas the most important choices we make about our kids health (and our own) usually never are.

As for emotional upheaval - while this may be the case, kids are really very resilient and with lots of love and support, he will be fine. keep us posted!
