What are the pros and cons to using a training potty for EC? My daughter is a very petite 7 month old who is still working on balancing enough to sit independently. We've been sitting on the adult toilet together, but I have trouble waiting long enough to catch all the poop. She inevitably has another batch as soon as we stand up! I'm thinking a training potty will allow us to read or do other things that will keep MY attention until she's really done. Thoughts?

I haven't been ECing that long but I only use a Baby Bjorn potty (beside the occasional holding a towel over her) with my almost 6 month DD and it works great. She can sit facing me and I'll hold her hands for balance. This makes it easier for me to see what's going on and she tries to stand up when she's done so I KNOW she's done. I know soon she'll have enough balance to sit by herself but I'll probably still sit with her because I won't want her to fall off when she tries to stand! If she's distracted I can sit behind her too which is also nice, and it doesn't hurt my back like when I tried to hold her over a toilet. Good luck!

baby bjorn little potty is great, she may be able to sit better on it than you think anyway, and at 7m if not sitting independently she will be any day now. My DD is a slow pooper and sometimes sits there for quite a while. You can also bring it into another room and not feel trapped in the bathroom. At about $10 its totally worth it. We also have reducer ring for the big potty (well actually a special toilet seat with a flip-down ring inside the lid). But my DD is 2 (just a few weeks ago) now and still uses the little potty plenty. For her its nice b/c getting herself on the toilet is still a challenge whereas she can work on independence with the BBLP. (she is starting to distinctly prefer the toilet lately).
