my beautiful second son was born on saturday at 9:40 in the morning, weighing 8 lbs and 3 oz. I started having contractions around midnight on thursday (so in case any one is doing the math, that is over 30 hrs of labor;) and they were 6-7 minutes apart. I continued to have them across the day and labored at home for a long time. My doula arrived around 3:30 and we went to the hospital around 9:30. i was having really bad back labor again, which, coupled with the long labor made us suspect he was posterior like ds1 was (one of the factors contributing to his c/s). i was 6 cm when i arrived and the biggest challenge was having to be stuck in the bed for 30 min on the monitors - the only thing that had been getting me through the contractions and back pain was my doula putting a crazy amount of pressure on my back and hips, and strapped to a bed I coudln't have that. Finally I was able to get out and get in the tub, which helped immensely- and then they wanted me to get out and get back on the monitors! I told them "you can't make me!" but ultimately I did, and they checked me again and I was 8-9 cm and thet could confirm at that point that he was still posterior and still high, which was probably due to his less than ideal position. At this point I decide to have en epidural, because i'd been alboring over 24 hrs and was just kaput. I had the world's most perfect epidural though, so I was able to continue moving while in bed. Unfortunately/fortunately I developed a "hot spot" where the baby was pushign on a nerve and not letting drug get to parts o fmy body, so i could continue to feel everything on one side. Then the whole darn thing wore off, which was actually good because when I was finally complete and he had descended more, I was able to be more active in the pushing stage, on hands and knees and squatting. This allowed me to get him turned somewhat (I thought he turned fully but my doula showed me a picture and he came out completely sideways) and allowed me to have the vbac I had been hoping for. seeing him come out of me was the most amazing experience of my life and i actually got to reach down and pull him up onto my chest. i did have some third degree tearing, but its nothing next to a c/s incision. i actually walked out of the hospital on my own 24 hrs later.  i'm sore and sleep deprived but feeling as blessed as a person can be.Â
