Baby's first virus plus first tooth=nursing strike please help!!

Anyone have any advice?  My 6 month old son refuses anything other than the breast.  He's currently sick with his first virus - nasty post nasal drip and sore throat - plus popping his first teeth!

I have OAL and just recently was able to stop pumping due to oversupply.  He has started growing into the OAL.  But trying to nurse him with the post nasal drip with OAL is choking him!  He refuses a bottle, dropper, or sippy cup.  He had 5 slightly moist cloth diapers yesterday.  When we clear his nose, he gets too upset.  He's never been a comfort nurser.  His fever broke last night, so I thought we were getting better.  Today, he's only nursed once just until letdown and not again.  I'm starting to think an ER visit may be happening soon.  What can they do for him, though when he flat out refuses to eat??

nak

have you tried a small open cup/shot glass. that was the way i got by 9 mo old to take my milk when he had a strike as a result of a sore throat.

i would watch really closely for signs of dehydration  and get to the ER if baby is dehydrated. they will give iv fluids.

kellymom has good hints too.

good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to reply!  I think he either had a sore throat or the teeth were bothering him.  Gave him some ibuprofen and he nursed!  Yay!

Great to hear you figured out the cause! Now he's back nursing hopefully he'll keep it up and start to feel better soon.
