I never believe anything I read on natural news without also reading it on a reputable site. Massive pinch of salt needed.

We went back to the "regular" light bulbs after one broke. Like the article says, if they break mercury and toxins could potentially be leaked into the air. But I also agree w/ PP that we live in a world prone to over-reacting and you must do your research and do what is best for you.

Yeah that.

Nor any article that reads "carcinogen that might cause cancer." Any journalist writing about cancer who doesn't know the definition of a carcinogen is suspect. I did a cursory search for the researcher and his research lab but didn't turn anything up aside from a couple carbon copy stories.

That being said, it's a relatively new technology in new format (small bulbs), so caution is warranted.

I too have been pondering this... I try to not turn the lights on unless it's night and there is no natural light or other light source to use. Like if the kids are playing and it's dark out I'll turn the light on. If the kids are asleep and I'm using the computer I've begun to turn the light off, or when watching tv I turn the lights off. I really was upset when I read this article becuase I've been using these bulbs for years and have only heard positive things about it.

woops, totally didn't realize this was a ttc thread! i just read natural news and was seeing if there were any opinions here on mdc because I take the ancedotal evidence of you ladies a bit more seriously than natural news 'researchers':P

Ditto.

I have been using CFL's pretty much since they first came out (I like how bright & white they are and that they're low wattage!) I have read some concerning stuff lately though so not sure what we might do if we ever need to replace a bulb.

But anyway, I was using CFL's when we conceived DS... though actually, now that I think about it, I spent a lot more time at work back then (and work had NO lights... don't ask...) And now I'm home all the time with my nice bright lights so I wonder if that's part of our TTC difficulty?!?!??!
