Oh dang... those are teeth in there!

So a few days ago DS (who's 3 mos) became extremely fussy and started crying like he was in pain in the afternoons. Nursing helped but I eventually pried his little mouth open and discovered 4 white lumps under the gums on the bottom. bigeyes.gif About a week later now and the teeth still haven't broken through.

My questions are... How long does it normally take for teeth to come out? How long after these come out will more come? What advice does anyone who had an early teether have about how to help? (He's not really coordinated enough to hold the Raz Berry teether I got him.)

I think I'm a little freaked out because we are about to go visiting family for the next 5 weeks...

When I first noticed the white bumps beneath the surface of my DD's gums, it took at least a week for the tooth to emerge.  She loves chewing on frozen washcloths when teething, and when she let's me massage her gums a bit with my finger, it seems to help her too.  For us, the painful part was really short-term.  Once the tooth cut through, she was a much happier baby :)
