My DD is allergic to strawberries -- as in full body hives -- but I can eat strawberries & nurse her, no problem. She has no reaction at all. You might be just fine. Try it and see what happens.

Dd is really sensitive to everything I eat. I just gave benadryl. I'm so mad at the restaurant I told them no cheese!

For instances like this, it is best to keep bentonite clay and vitamin C on hand to help mitigate any reactions. It will not completely negate effects but it may help to reduce the reaction's severity and length.

How and to whom do you administer and in what amounts?  I mean, the breastfeeding mom or the child or both?

I always err on the side of caution when dispensing advice, and suggest going with as little as possible. The smallest dose I've heard helping is 1/4tsp of bentonite and 1gram of vitamin C administered to the mother. There are others on this site with far more experience than myself who would likely go higher.

And it may be different whether it's an allergy or an intolerance... you could also pump and dump and use frozen breastmilk if you have any stashed. For my son who was intolerant, I'd just get puked on every feeding for the next 3 days if I had done what you had. But I also didn't know about clay and vitamin C back then either.

Very true, Kathy.
