what are you feeding your 7 month old?

I am a "Newbie" and i am curious as to what other parents are feeding/fed their 7 month old's. Currently mine is still nursing on demand, and we give her two "meals" a day a fruit in the am, and a veggie in the pm. I was just wondering if this enough, or should i be introducing other foods i.e. meats? Thank you!

Welcome to MDC! :)

You'll probably get more responses to this if you repost in Life With a Babe...

DS is 6.5 months and he nurses on demand (every 2-3 hours, day and night), and eats solids twice a day. We offer some type of grain (rice or couscous, usually) on his tray for him to self-feed, and give mashed or pureed "real food" (so we don't buy the jars). On a typical day he'll have several baby handfuls of the rice / couscous, and I'd say 1/2 cup of a veggie and 1/4 cup of fruit? We've also just started introducing tofu (we're vegetarians), but he's only had a few bites of that.

I think you'll find a huge, wide range for what a baby that age will eat. As long as your DC is gaining weight, nursing well, and seems happy with the amount of food they have, you're doing it right! thumb.gif

I made his own food at that age, and here are some of the things I remember feeding him :

pears and rice

sweet potato

asparagus

peas

carrots

peaches

cantaloupe

blueberries

yogurt

oatmeal

coconut milk rice( cooked brown rice blended with coconut milk)

acorn squash

cherries

steamed apples

scrambled eggs

green beans

tofu

beans/chili

pasta

bread/crackers

homemade teething bars

banana

avocado

I am sure there were other things too that I don't remember anymore. Some things I also did was cook grains in stock when available, and cook the food in different ways and with seasoning- grilled asparagus with lemon and garlic, for example. At 7 months DS had been eating food for about two weeks and really seemed to like it. I offered food 3 times a day, when we ate, and he ate maybe 1/2 cup for so of what was offered. I also would add in onions and mushrooms to some of the foods for flavor. Around the same time we started to offer him almost completely cleaned chicken bones or other bones for him to chew on and get some flavor, but I didn't want to feed him actual meat yet. I did use chicken stock, yogurt, eggs, cheese and some butter at this age though.
