Help - carnivore dh thinks our 14 month old isn't into solids b/c of no meat

Ughhhh is all I can say. We discussed this ad nauseum before and during pregnancy and now as our son is 14 months old and still not interested in solids dh throws this at me: if our son was allowed meat that he would like it and show normal age-appropriate interest in solid foods, saying he could 'prove' it by giving him some and showing me.

DH also asked me how long should we go before switching him to milk and (in accusatory tone) do I think it is normal that he is still on it at his age? Ds is still on formula since he only manages to get a few nibbles or spoons of any solid down at any meal and it seems he should be getting a greater amount than that to switch to reg milk. And even when he will try out a piece of fruit or cheese or what have you, it seems that he gnaws, chews a little, then pushes the tiny bits out with his tongue. Purees he can swallow fine *if* he accepts the spoon. So I don't know if he just hasn't figured out that swallowing follows biting off, then chewing.  He also quized me on my dietary habits insinuating they were deficient in nutrients and what would I do, feed the poor boy pizza later?

Help -- I am really upset over this b/c he seems to think it is my fault that our son is not eating solids normally. greensad.gif

Any advice would be most welcome.

Lots of kids go on a sort of solids strike at around that age. I promise you, he'll eat eventually.

If it was just a strike I wouldn't worry but he hasn't taken to eating at all yet. Maybe will call the feeding specialist this week. Thanks.

We're an omnivorous family, and DD was offered meat as a baby.  She wanted nothing to do with it or most other solids until she was well past a year old.  Meat was actually one of the last things she ever wanted--she was probably about 2.5 before she would eat it.  Some babies are just really slow to take to solids.  I do think she has some sensory issues that may have played into it, so you may want to look into that if you're concerned.
