My mother in law wants to buy these specific car seats sold at costco (not sure exactly which one, she didn't mention any brands) that is intended for older kids but you can do rear or front face for like $34.00-ish dollars (more or less in that price range) for the grandkids. My question is this: Does the fact that this price is so low jeopardize the safety of it? We have a My Graco ride convertible that we bought for ds to use rf (it's been a while but when we bought ours we did our research to get this one). He's two (he's always been on the smaller size for his age), but I thought even the lowest prices for carseats were around low hundreds or like fifty dollars and above. Anyway I could be totally wrong, but my only issue is does anyone know if they're safe? I tried going on their website but couldn't find any car seats within that description and price range. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you sure she said AT Cosco, and not the brand name Cosco?Â

All seats meet the same safety requirements, regardless of brand/price. If the seat fits the kid and can be installed safely in your vehicle, then your golden.   I'm not aware of any convertables that are that low in price however.

The Cosco (not Costco) Scenera is a convertible that can rear-face to either 35# or 40# depending on model, and forward-face to 40#. It's usually $40-$45, but can often be found on sale for $35ish. It passes the same tests as the $300 Britax Advocate. If your child fits, and a small 2yo almost certainly will, and it can be installed well in the vehicle, it's perfectly safe to use.
