Negative comments?

My sons father and I were at lunch today and were talking about breastfeeding and how I have to say that I am the most proud of breastfeeding. What I mean is, of all the things I've done in my life, I am absolutely most proud that I have grown my 1 year old son all by myself- from a little zygote to a rambunctous one year old.  We were also talking about how everyone was pretty negative when they learned that we were planning to breastfeed (this is when I was pregnant) and said "Oh wait until he gets teeth, you'll quit!" And he has bit me many, many times- but I just end the session and I've stuck with it. And I plan to AT LEAST nurse until 2. I was just wondering how many people have gotten negative comments also? I hate that so many people make breastfeeding seem anything but normal. I realize that there are difficulties along the way, but of course we work through them! What comments, if any, have you gotten that are negative that relate to breastfeeding in any way? I think I'm especially interested in the comments of "he's too old." And, how to you respond?

Absolutely.

My kid is 14 months and only 18 lbs and someone said to me the other day, "I guess she'll be going to Kindergarten like that, huh?"

"Nope, we plan to homeschool". love.gif

What it someone you know or just a stranger? I am always baffled at what complete STRANGERS will say to people.

let's see...

"Oh, what about when he gets teeth?" Well he's eighteen months, you can be fairly certain he has teeth...

"I guess you lost a lot of your modesty" in reference to opening my shirt at home to breastfeed.

"You know he gets what you eat right?" I was eating a cookie, she clearly equated this to feeding my two month old a cookie... lol

But really I have had a wonderful experience nursing and not receiving negative comments. Some of the upbeat comments I have gotten are:

"how wonderful for him, getting real milk instead of powdery tap water" I loved this one! I laughed for days thinking about the woman saying it- she was maybe 40 to 50 which made it even better.

"Well, that's what God made them for after all, I suppose!"
