Does anyone know anything about or have advice Re: cysts on the pineal glad?

My BFF's daughter was just found to have a 1.5 (mm or cm, I can't remember) cyst that is on her pineal gland.  She is only 6.   I have never heard of this, and it sounds sooo scary.

Anyone have any knowledge!?!

TIA!

My best friend in high school had one our Senior year. She was fine in the end, it was more of a problem to figure out what was wrong! Now she's a healthy mother of two. smile.gif

The only thing I know about the pineal gland is that it secretes melatonin.  Does the cyst appear to be causing her many major problems?  I would wonder if the gland is working appropriately.  If she's not sleeping well maybe ask the doctor about adding melatonin supplements?

I hate dealing with growths of any kind in children.  Mine have Cowden Syndrome--as do I.  It's uber rare but because of it I've had cancer three times (was diagnosed with all by age 30).  Recently my 7 year old had a place removed that turned out to be an AV malformation and my almost 6 year old has a place on her brain we are watching by MRI.  It's hard when little ones have to go through anything like that.

Her youngster is in my thoughts.

thanks for the responses....

:)

She doesn't sleep well.  She has SPD and other behavior/attention/anxiety issues.   She's always been a head banger and they fear a bit of brain damage b/c of it.   This is how she would get herself back to sleep.  She would bang her head against the crib, wall and then headboard.   I even helped my BFF tie and tape baby bumpers to the headboard.   The nurologist thinks her behavior/attention issues are linked to the cyst.    My BFF pulled her from the public school to HS her, which is also not going well.   She has an elem. edu degree, but can not contain her or keep her attention, plus she has 3 other kids to care for.   She has regressed from being able to write her name clearly in kindy, to not able to do it at all now.   :(

Is this something that is removable?

bumping this because I was just diagnosed with a pineal cyst myself.   I had a CAT scan for migraines and they found a 8mm cyst in my pineal gland.  I have to have more CAT scans over the next year to make sure it's not growing but they said it's most likely to be harmless.  It is removable, they go through the roof of the mouth  I believe.
